I have been investing in stocks since 1974 and mutual funds since the 1980's. Basically, I am a long term investor in more conservative blue chip stocks and including some mature tech stocks. When I have tried trading on a daily or weekly basis, I have not been so well at timing the market. I do my research on a stock or mutual fund and pay attention to the track record of the company's earnings and future trends in the industry. My background is as a counseling psychologist and university professor in psychology. I try to pay attention to the psychology of investing and control my emotions as best I can when buying or selling a stock or mutual fund. Sometimes It works for me and at other times my human vulnerability gets the upper hand. Now, I am a few years into retirement from academia and have more time to follow the market and pay closer attention to the economy and trends. There are always surprises where stocks are concerned.
