    Value Digger,

Jim Doak agrees with you. He is the co-founder of Sui Generis Investment Partners and he advises taking a short position in the Calgary-based oil and gas outfit for the same reasons you note above. See the article:

  • Investing In High Dividend Yield Stocks: A Sucker Bet? [View article]
    Alpha Architect,

I liked your article but I think you cannot make a rule. I own two MLPs, JPEP and NSLP.

Both JPEP and NSLP currently give high dividends (higher than 10%) while carrying the lowest leverage ratios in their industry (Midstream and Integrated MLPs).

Also, both JPEP and NSLP have strong growth yoy and thanks to the strength of their balance sheets, they will make acquisitions in 2015 too.

In this case I modestly suggest to everyone to think twice before he talks about any other's credit like you did about mine, especially when I haven't made the same infelicity and talked firstly about yours, or anyone's else.

    Duago,

Personal attacks on me by Jan Lessner are inappropriate and only shows his lack of credit, according to your view. Please keep that in mind.

The exactly same applies to you when you have seen Jan Lessner questioning my knowledge but you didn't comment it, while you rushed to comment my similar remark to him, which came only after his remark.

So, I will return to you also your personal attack: you are biased and that only shows your luck of credit. Please keep that in mind.

As for PTA, Jan Lessner believes that financing growth by more debt is the best way. I answered to him that he can buy companies which have grown like that, but PTA has strong balance sheet while many of these companies bankrupt.

As for the difference of .TO and .V: you are the first and only one I have seen who thinks that this difference is pointless and he writes indiscriminately PTA or any other company with .TO and .V.
So, I don't agree with you on this.

    Jan Lessner,

I see you are a lawyer. And although you are a lawyer, your numerous posts show that you want to provide us financial education.

I believe you had better spend your time more constructively and read PTA's PRs more carefully next time instead of giving us lengthy investment lectures for a sector which is obviously out of your expertise. I quote an interesting excerpt for you:

"Additionally, the Company is currently engaged in advanced discussions with several parties to establish a new debt facility. It is expected that this new facility will be finalised and in place in the second quarter of 2015."

Also, Value Digger told you that PTA made those 11.5% notes when it was a risky explorer about 3 years ago.
Since then, it has grown without taking another loan.

As for my knowledge and the luck I will need, I have to return a similar comment about yours: You have wrote many messages to comment/analyse PTA while you don't even know that it is not "PTA.TO" but "PTA.V", listed in TSX Venture.

Jan Lessner, buy those producers below who have grown by using debt.

They are all yours and I wish you good luck with them, you will need it.
Let us buy the DEBT-FREE PTA instead.

Thanks Jeb, very interesting. I wish things turn better sooner than these guys think and people find work again to this sector.

  • A Closer Look At Enterprise Products Partners' Distributable Cash Flow As Of 4Q 2014 [View article]
I think the main problem with EPD is its debt and its high Net debt to EBITDA ratio. EPD has $21.5 billion Net Debt.
During these hard times debt is important and there is low debt companies out there...
Compare EPD to JP Energy Partners (JPEP) for example. JPEP is a new midstream player, it pays 10% distribution yield and has Net Debt to EBITDA below 2 times.
So EPD is cheaper than many other companies of the sector, but some others are cheaper than EPD too...

This twit came from "umpisam", well known troll in Yahoo boards. He has predicted numerous times that PTA will bankrupt soon due to its ...heavy debt. As for the "failure" of PTA or PRE (Pacific Rubiales) it is easy to talk about failure when the whole sector has collapsed.
As for Iacono, google to find if there is a connection with PTA and if he has to do anything with the management etc.

But if you prefer to search for real info and the current major shareholders, check where the financier and founder of Clarion Finanz Carlo Civelli invests:
