  • Apple Is In Deep Trouble: A Reformed Bull Speaks Out [View article]
well, it can go two ways: profits increase form here or profit go down. I think they will go up for these reasons:

    1) free OS upgrades and productivity applications applications are going to kill microsoft as more and more users will get these on this ecosystem. in turn this drives Apple HW sales

    2) Apple Iphone revenue is not limited by its price tag but by availability and global distribution agreements. over time these two things will go away. there is not yet on the horizon an ecosystem nor a product competitive with the iPhone in terms of quality try to use the Samsung Kies to manage your phone - if it works (I tell you the first challenge is to get it installed successfully) it is really bad. and worst of all it is not integrated in the android ecosystem so you feel like you are dealing with a schizophrenic product.

    3) microsoft windows 8 OS is not a tablet or mobile oriented nor desktop or laptop oriented system as they failed to address either well... this will make a lot of the consumer base unhappy with microsoft and I tell you the fact enterprises do not have to pay productivity licenses nor OS upgrades looks attractive to me as a proposition.

    4) google price oriented competition is not really making a difference as the price difference of say 100$ or so spread over a product lifetime is like a drop in the ocean so I do not buy the argument price is a definite hurdle if what one wants is an apple product to start with. I guess that here it is very similar to one that wants a BMW and coz it is more expensive goes for a chevy... regardless of income or willingness to spend money on it.

    5) if google became too strong as HW seller then the success factor it build on (i.e. widespread adoption across many platforms) will certainly become less evident and probably spur price competition INSIDE the android ecosystem which of course is already happening to its own damage.

    6) there is no doubt apple will not stay put and rest on glory so they WILL introduce new product categories that add new streams of revenue and profit over time

    7) did anyone notice the hiring pattern? by hiring retail experts and fashion experts they do want to distinguish from the crowd and command high margin for ever... this is a positive. Note no one ever questioned BMW or Audi for selling at a good margin and still they seem successful.

the list can continue but I need to stop here :).

  • (Almost) Kudos To You, Mr. Cook [View article]
stunning article... you have got all the points right. It is very well known premium brands are used to add to the price of their goods in Asia as contrary to the assumptions of us in the west, making a product more expensive attracts folks more than lowering its price, for premium brands.

  • The 5 Reasons Apple's Earnings Report Was Huge [View article]
folks should also consider this: the guidance for next quarter points to an increase in sales of about 2.5 B vs. last year at a higher margin than last year. to put it into perspective it is like an increase equal to the whole Facebook sales in a quarter (GULP!) and with a higher profit margin and cash generation than FB :). People do not even realize the magnitude and meaning of this.

  • Apple Is Slowly Rotting: Rosy Financials Mask Competitive Disadvantage And Souring Future [View article]
nothing else to add... and even in the unlikely event no new product categories were added to the apple lineup, the look and feel of apple products as well as their technological features are continuing to improve and they are different than competition, distinctive and appealing.

so it is like a car company being accused to build just cars... well with apple we stand the distinct chance they will add new areas of business related to their ecosystem soon. to the dismay of bears.

  • Apple Hits $400: Is Now The Time For Dividend Growth Investors To Get In? [View article]
    it is this easy:

say that the market cap is 400 B (in reality it is 375 now)

byy bying back 60B stock market cap will fall at same price to 340.

minus 100B cash (145-borrowings needed for buyback)

we have a value of 240B implied by a market cap of 400B.

now since we are not at 400B but at 375, it means current price sees the value of apple at about 220B which is supported at 15 PE by a earnings of about 15B/year or about 4B/Q. which means even in the event earnings more than halved from current levels the company would be just fairly valued. also the assumption is that the company stops accruing more cash (zero cash added in the process).

so, if earnings remained constant and cash flow also constant, the stock may possibly double its value and return 30B in dividends to shareholders.

it seems quite a good reason to enter at these levels if you hear me.

  • Apple Can Save Its Shareholders - But Will It? [View article]
guys, I am in Europe and for sure there is a recent trend to go back to iphone. we have a samsung and we will do the same when contract expires... I think whoever says iphone is uncool is not honest... just touch it and use it :). I repeat to everyone, just look around you and see what your friends and colleagues do and buy what you see... it is like denying coca cola s successful in fizzy drinks market.

  • Apple Stays Rotten [View article]
I think the author did not know yet they had sold 9 million rotten apples in a single week end just as they had just fallen from the tree... I guess that as long as rotten apples are in demand Apple is a safe bet.

In reality I think that there is a misunderstanding of market dynamics by those that do not see the Apple tsunami is going to take on pretty much most of the mobile OS and mobile HW and mobile content and advertisement business. at some point they will have to break it up :).

  • Apple's New Pitch To Investors [View article]
how can they reward themselves by owning stock which appreciates with buybacks and not shareholders? you are clearly a hater... you are disqualified from any other comment... the mix of buyback and divi increase is correct... you want to first buyback then increase dividends progressively on a smaller pool of shares to keep it in line with a given yield as price conceivably goes up. so, it was really a good thing we have got as shareholders... thank you.

  • You Better Duck - Apple's Unit Profits Are Falling [View article]
this article assumes unit profits will go down linearly and that at some point apple will come to build stuff on a non profit the amazon kindle..AND, there will be no new product of higher margin down the road ...

    yeah right...

  • I Was Wrong About Apple [View article]
now what stops apple to sell lots of 5S at a lower margin while they sell 6 and discontinue 4s if so they wished? conceivably a lower priced 5S when 6 is out should create a monster demand for it every where apple can sell into at lower prices only.

This is why I believe this article is a bit surprising and I wish the author did not really hold a large short and was just declaring himself short to bet on a fall of Apple which would position him as the man who had predicted the fall... otherwise, good luck, as the models the short is based on are flawed and do not take into account the expanding Apple ecosystem.

would be nice to know the short the author is on as there are shorts and shorts... one could conceivably have a short term short at these prices to capitalize on any dip after such a long run...

  • Apple's Shareholder Program: The Day The Music Died [View article]
having worked in companies in technology area i have conclude that more research and development spend often means not more ideas and better product, rather more empire building and internal infighting. i would love apple to remain nimble and invent something new every couple of years....

the article was no good though. the apple announced buyback is a masterpiece and will go down in the annals of finance as one of the best ever decisions by management. the assumption by the author that a buyback signals running out of ideas seems a bit odd.

  • The Past, Present, And Future Of Alcatel-Lucent [View article]
it looks to me a far fetched statement, also what is meant by USA business? most of the successful IP networking business is USA based and also the best customers are in USA... it looks to me this part of the company could survive really well. :). the authors displays superficial knowledge of the company.

Also velocix was a fully owned subsidiary of ALU to start with...

so it was not acquired in 2010.

bottom line this article is a bit high level and offers little insight and also it has in it many mistakes and wrong assessments. sorry.
