  • General Motors: Accidental High Yielder Is A Buy After Recent Decline [View article]
"The Impala seems to get redesigned every year. Who would buy a car car that gets outdated every year by a new design?"
Back 'in the day' automobiles WERE redesigned every year. Somewhere around 1970 I stopped being able to tell what model year a vehicle was just by looking at it.

    Thanks Bret.

GM does nothing for me. Except for Cadillac V-series and the C7 Corvette, I get the blahs. I've owned GM cars (and Ford, Chrysler, AMC). I currently drive two GM cars: A government certified 'clunker' 2002 Chevy Blazer 4wd, and a 2009 Saturn Sky Red Line. I just don't feel the excitement from the new GM lineup. Perhaps it's my age, gender, demographic. However, there are a lot of us 60+ buyers, with disposable cash, that would like to see some good old Deeetroit Iron for sale again. The new Impala? Yawnnnnn.... The SS? Okay. Maybe.

Disclosure: My wife rolls in a foreign car- 2011Jeep Grand Cherokee-built in Deeeetroit, but owned by Fiat in Turin, Italy. So I guess (according to the UAW) I'm about to lose my job since I'm buying foreign....

  • Dr. Pepper Sales Decline, But Earnings Up 10% In 2013 [View article]
I, for one, would rather see the soda makers bring back REAL SUGAR. I don't like HFCS in my sodas. And I cannot stomach the various faux sweeteners that are used. Yuck.

In the soda wars, there are Coke (KO) people (I drink Coke-I own KO stock), there are Pepsi (PEP) people, and there are Dr. Pepper/RC Cola (DPS) people. (I like Vernors, Sunkist, and 7UP - all DPS brands) You're not going to sway the faithful from one camp to another without a good reason, or a good screw-up. DPS will chug along (pun intended), and grow along a bumpy road.

That being said, this is one of the stocks in my grandson's DRiP portfolio.

The way I look at it is my KMI February $35 covered calls will expire worthless and I get to keep the premium, and hopefully my $33.70 buy order for more KMI will get filled lowering my average cost. And I collect a nice $.41 divy on 2/18.

Thanks for the comment! You must be in or near Holland? I lived on the west side 82-84 (Norton Shores and then Spring Lake). Worked at the Muskegon Airport as an air traffic controller before transferring to Detroit Metro in 1984. Retired in 2005 a year before hitting the age limit.
This is all I could find on the matching grants:
From Saving For College . Com
    "Program match on contributions:
Michigan matching grants based on MESP contributions have been discontinued for the 2009-2010 year. In prior years, a Michigan resident with adjusted gross income of $80,000 or less and a beneficiary under seven years old could apply for a one-time matching grant of $1 for every $3 contributed, up to a maximum $200 grant."
    From WiKi:
"MI State Matching Grants based on MESP contributions are not currently available. If state appropriations become available in the future, the State Matching Grant program will be reinstated."
Look for an update on 'The Grandson Project' in March.

Sometimes it's better business to buy the competition, than try to compete and win against them.

The only way I could ever endorse BA moving into corporate jets, would be to acquire Gulfstream from GD. IMHO, BA makes the best commercial jets, and Gulfstream makes the best corporate jets.

I do not see this ever happening.

  • In The Pursuit Of Dividends: BP [View article]
"Just like tobacco, Oil Majors' investors need to reconcile investing in these companies based on their own cultural and moral standards. "
Considering some of the nefarious activities our own government has been undertaking, you should add US Treasuries to that list.... (tongue in cheek)
However, when investing, I check my morals at the door.
Knowing that the sole reason for BP not paying the dividend was political, I purchased my position a couple of years ago at around $42. They are and continue to be, one of the 'core holdings' in my taxable account.
Long: BA, BP, KO, T, NUE, GE, PM

  • How Obama's 'MyRA' Plan Will Impact The U.S. Economy [View article]
I'm always amazed that those in government who profess to be legislating goodness for the poor, understand so little about them.

Until we abandon this 'feel good' style of governing, this country will continue to slip/slide along it's present path.
