chinese don't think numbers the save way as westeners. for them the message transmitted by the numbers is more important than them being nicely round or evenly fractioned. in this case it can be noted that 8 is pronounced the same way as prosperous and more importantly 18 is pronounced as definitely prosperous in cantonese.
