  • A Facebook Earnings Review: Long-Term Potential Is Fully Intact, A Buying Opportunity Is At Hand [View article]
"There's nothing in Facebook's latest earnings report to suggest that a fair value estimate of $13.80 for the stock needs major revision."

600s??? That is the level it was trading at during the height of its growth phase. I don't know if you noticed, but several very potent players have entered the mobile fray at a time when Apple's marquee innovation has essentially ground to a halt.

Jeff, why would you lure the average investor into an inflationary bubble that is being artificially kept from bursting by the rhetoric of the Manipulator-in-chief -- Ben Bernanke?

  • The beat goes on: Henry Blodget argues Siri (AAPL) offers no threat to Google's search dominance (GOOG -0.9%) "whatsoever," finding that except in limited cases using Google is "vastly more convenient, precise, and helpful" than firing up tricky voice commands. In his cruelest cut of all Blodget calls the Siri service a "fun toy," a description that falls pretty short from one Apple exec who called the launch a "world-changing event."  [View news story]
I may wait till AAPL drops to $380 and then rebuy to the tune of six figures. The current price valuation is becoming more attractive by the hour.

  • Mounting evidence that sugary drinks and fatty foods lead to addiction could spark the most important consumer safety battle since cigarettes. One-third of U.S. adults and 17% of children are obese - adding about $150B to healthcare costs and shaving anywhere from 2-10 years off people's lives.  [View news story]
@Karen Consumer: "Sugary drinks and fatty foods taste good." What's wrong with you?! Would you make hard drugs available to the general public because they make you feel good?? I'm a bioochem major, and I can tell you that certain types of foods act like DRUGS. If you ate enough of them you too would become addicted.

I would rather make steady gains in the market by investing in socially responsible companies and having a clear conscience, rather than having to live with the knowledge that my investments cause irreparable harm to the health of the general public and sabotage the financial future of our country!!!

  • Steve Jobs was "very receptive" to the idea of a 7" tablet during a 2011 discussion, wrote Apple (AAPL) exec Eddy Cue in an e-mail turned up during Apple/Samsung legal proceedings. Two takeaways: 1) The iPad Mini concept has been floating around Apple HQ for a while. 2) Don't take everything Jobs said at face value. Or at least consider the possibility he might have changed his mind. The e-mail came up as iOS chief Scott Forstall discussed Project Purple, which gave birth to the iPhone.  [View news story]
A 7" tablet isn't such a bright idea if you ask me. At the moment I'm using a 10.1" Motorolla Xoom, and one of the primary reasons I don't wish to upgrade is iPad's slightly smaller screen size. Why pay for a 7" tablet, when you can own a 5'' smartphone?

  • More on JMP's Facebook upgrade: Mark Harding's $37 PT values Facebook (FB +0.7%) at 54x his 2013 EPS esimate. He predicts Facebook's share of the display ad market will grow to 22% in 2015 from 11% in 2011, and that the market itself will increase rapidly as more offline ad spending moves to the Web. Harding also notes daily engagement rates for Facebook users have been rising across geographies. A recent Reuters survey suggests U.S. engagement may be peaking.  [View news story]
When your Co-Founder permanently renounces his US citizenship to avoid paying taxes, and your CEO is accused of insider trading to the tune of $1 billion, you might have a PR problem on your hands. I guess the thinking is having a paid analyst pump your stock might convince the investors otherwise...
