  • Why ConocoPhillips Cut Its Dividend But BP Hasn't  [View article]
Investors, read this article carefully because COP's fate will be the fate of other more conglomerated companies being stalked by "activest shareholders" intent on "unlocking shareholder value" by spinning off company divisions and subsidiaries. DD and GE are cases in point.

    Long: BP and DD.

  • BG Group issues final earnings report on high note ahead of Shell merger  [View news story]
Paperone75: I couldn't agree with you more! BG's developement of a greatly improved LNG transport ship is a PERFECT fit for RDS' traditionally, (and successful!), visionary strategy! LNG transport is, and remains, a weight on U.S. LNG export. RDS knows what its' doing, and is doing the right thing.

  • Brazil stays committed to Summer Olympics  [View news story]
I thought that the Olympics were cancelled once before, during WW2, although that might have been the winter Olympics. I still don't have enough reliable information to have an opinion on whether this Zika virus is more genuine threat, or more hysterical, media hype.

You should have at least worn a black tie - I know that white shirts are discouraged for filming.

I disagree with your choice of sector because I personally know people who waste their last, scraped-together pennies at the casino and are forced to eat at the actual free soup kitchen that evening and perhaps for several additional days. The cycle continues, leading to harassment for donations to the soup kitchen,(which I usually give because I know people who would go hungry without it),and, eventually, higher taxes.

  • Airbus, Uber partner for on-demand helicopter service  [View news story]
Interesting news byte and GREAT comments - thanks!

I see positives in UBER: booking convenience, dependability, freedom from parking worries, ( your worst nightmare!), and I believe that many UBER drivers are actually better and safer drivers than cab drivers.

Increased value due to partnering with EADSY? It will definately take time to judge. A fact about these very speculative stocks is the SLOW going, positive or negative.

Love the comment about shetland ponies! I genuinely love them, and might actually occasionally book one for myself or my grandchildren!

  • U.K. Portfolio Update: Q4 2015 With Major Changes  [View article]
Hi, Nick - good to see you check in!
Here in the U.S., tax consequences weigh heavily on the investment modalities I choose. I know many dividend investors who choose high-yielding modalities for income, but then "life happens" and they are chronically paniced and struggling when the taxman commeth. Therefore, I am long-term holding two of the individual equities you have jettisoned and sticking to individual equities.

Happy New Year and good luck to all!!

    Long: BTI and BP.

Made my traditional final trade of the year just before Market close and now have enjoyed reading this article. May I be so bold as to suggest CVGW as part of the healthy eating trend?

Happy New Year and good luck to all!

  • Disney: 'The Force Awakens' Is Just The Beginning  [View article]
DIS has always been a mega powerhouse! Anyone who could not see the value of such acquisitions as Lucas Films and Henson, and the surge in quality and innovative Disney gaming, must be asleep! Whenever challanges such as a decline in ESPN and greatly increased security needs in the "happiest places on earth" arise, DIS will be more than capable of taking them on!
DIS is my second largest holding and I initiated the position in 1994.

    Long:DIS.

  • Is Uber Worth $70 Billion? (Part 2)  [View article]
UBER is frought with possibilities, both positive and negative, but CAREFULLY developed and guided I believe that it has a real chance.

My input from actual grass-roots, multistate users is very positive and developement in the areas of uberEATS and delivery services have real potential.
And then you have competitors springing up - "imitation is the greatest form of flattery"!

The road will be anything but smooth, (no pun intended), but if it goes public I will take a small, long-term position.

  • Is Uber Worth $70 Billion? (Part 2)  [View article]
Regarding UberEATS: I find it interesting that I recently read that the CEO of a well-established fast food chain spoke of a dynamic mentioned here and suggested a consideration of sacrificing some quality in favor of speed and convenience. Until I read your articles I had no idea where he got that concept. Thanks!

  • Will BP Be Crippled By New Oil Spill Lawsuit?  [View article]
Cautiously: Certainly the Mexican plaintiffs deserve, and I am sure will get, their day in court, and if they can PROVE their claims they should be compensated. To believe, however, that all of the claims brought against BP, including some that were ruled by the courts to be just, were actually just, is incorrect. "Scapegoating" is never justified.

    Long: BP.

  • Will BP Be Crippled By New Oil Spill Lawsuit?  [View article]
To say that any oil spill claim against BP is "the last claim" is like saying that any war is "the war to end all wars." I certainly do not deny that many were greviously injured by the oil spill, but BP has been "taken to the cleaners" unjustly by many as well. I believe that this is just such a frivolous claim. And on we go.

    Long: BP.
