  • Investors are digging Freeport McMoRan's (FCX +3.2%) Q2 report, as weaker Y/Y results via lower prices and volumes and higher costs already were anticipated. Acquisitions have stretched the balance sheet and could pressure free cash flow, but longer-term the deals give FCX valuable oil-rich assets at a reasonable price to help cut dependence on metals. It's "the best house on a bad block among miners," BB&T says. [View news story]
Have bought multiple times from the low 30s to low 27s.Sit and hold, enjoy the 4% and sleep well.Originally couldnt understand the purchase of Freeport Exploration and Plains but its starting to make sense.Diversification in exploration is a good idea.Assets in the ground always trump dreams in space.

  • Questcor Pharmaceuticals (QCOR -5.3%) slips a little harder than the overall market this morning after being downgraded by Bank of America to a Neutral. The firm says that the ROI for Synacthen looks challenging due to lack of intellectual property, uncertain clinical data, and no ex-US commercial/regulatory infrastructure. [View news story]
This seems to prove the point that Novartus did no let this drug go cheap. For QCOR to go from $36 to $46 on this purchase still boggles the mind.

  • Jefferies analyst Biren Amin weighs in on Questcor (QCOR +21%), saying that some of today's move has to do with the short interest being around 32% of its float, but adds that its purchase of Synacthen removes an overhang and has the potential to eliminate a competitive threat going forward. For that to happen however, trials from Synacthen and Synacthen Depot in rheumatology, multiple sclerosis, IS and NS will need to demonstrate solid efficacy and safety within the US. Amin maintains a Buy on the shares with a $38 price target. [View news story]
For QCOR to bounce up to $14. on the open tells me that the market views Novartis as a bunch of fools.Apparently the market believes QCOR stole this drug. That is probably why as the market day went on more than half of the euphoric gains were dissolved.Does anyone remember 1999 in tech.It wont be long when everyone remembers 2013 in biotech.

  • Three Big Pharma upgrades: Jefferies takes Merck (MRK) and Bayer (BAYRY.PK) to Buy from Hold and Deutsche Bank lifts GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) to Buy from Hold. [View news story]
Havent heard about a BMY spinoff. Its kind of funny. When these stocks were down less than a year ago no one wanted anything to do with them. Now that they are all hitting multi year highs all the buy recommendations come out.Has the look and the feel of the late 90s

  • In Search Of High-Yield Dividend Stocks, Part 2 [View article]
Lets start by looking at reality for a minute.Prevailing interest rates are in the 3-4% range. When it comes to investing there are no secrets.Legitimate companies know they do not have to pay dividends that are out of line from prevailing rates. There is a reason for outsized dividends or returns from mlps. When a company such as MSFT,CSCO or BMY returns in the 3% range to shareholders you know that is the prevailing rate.Sorry but over the years I have seen many investors such as yourself that feel they have all of the answers. They are currently trying to recoup $40. 00 in shareholder litigation on their investment in XYZ limited partnership.

  • In Search Of High-Yield Dividend Stocks, Part 2 [View article]
REITs and MLPs are historically very erratic dividend payers. You want to see a portfolio get slaughtered so you can get your yield step right up.I have done so much better with big names in big industries. If you would have looked for yields in big pharma a few years ago,you would have enjoyed the runs in BMY or PFE or LLY that would have brought you a yield of around 5% and enjoyed the price appreciation approaching 100%

  • Taking A Close Look At Bristol-Myers' Dividend [View article]
Been in BMY for better than 5 years.Added to my position 6 times.Still like the dividend, been a super stock.I am starting to think that more upside exists in some of the metals and explorers like FCX or maybe RIG that just announced a 4% dividend. Not to mention Icahn wanting to shake it up.

  • Freeport-McMoRan's (FCX) $9B deal to buy two energy companies has prompted the unusual step from shareholders of the acquiring company to go after their own directors for overpaying; more typical are class actions from shareholders of target companies who say the purchase price is too low. Six FCX directors also on MMR's board will reap $131M for their stock in near-bankrupt MMR, according to lawsuits. [View news story]
It seems you can never fill out the form right,no matter what you do.Then they wait another 3 years, then you get a check to buy lunch and coffee that day.Lawyers jet to the Cayman Islands and have drinks with an umbrella under a palm tree.

  • New Freeport Still Worth A Look [View article]
If I wanted to buy MME or PXP I would have done that.I didnt need FCX to buy them at inflated prices and say trust us that our management is so much better or we will have great synergies that you cant find in these stand alone companies. They still havent explained what other investors were missing.

  • Inside A Slaughter: Why Freeport-McMoRan Lost 16% [View article]
Wouldnt a special dividend have been more in order. No one seems to really understand this except the double dealers on the board that owned stock in all 3 companies.

  • McMoRan Exploration (MMR) soars 21% premarket after the FT reports Freeport McMoRan (FCX) is looking to get back into the energy production business, with MMR acquisition target #1. Another possibility is Plains Exploration (PXP), which has ties to both FCX and MMR. [View news story]
There is confusion here between FCX copper and gold and Freeport exploration 2 entirely different companies.
