I work in a non-financial profession and spent the first 10-12 years of my career primarily invested in low-fee mutual funds. I've since shifted to individual equities and love the active control that came with it. I'm always a fan of learning, and my investment philosophy reflects this as it's evolved over time. I'm convinced that one of the best ways to spend free time (whatever that is!) is by educating myself about finance. I'm an MBA graduate who feels like I've learned more on this site and from limited personal experiences than in the classroom. Being married with two small children and working in an incredibly time-consuming career offers little time to pursue personal interests, but I've always been fascinated by opposing opinions on a variety of topics. Seeking alpha is a perfect example of this, as I thoroughly enjoy the various perspectives offered by authors and commentators.
