  • Trinity Industries Could Be A Home Run [View article]
Well an interesting development happened today from US regulators that might bode well for TRN increasing their rail car production. I've copied and pasted the following:

    • U.S. regulators issue tough new rules for safer transportation of crude oil by trains, introducing a new tank car standard and mandating the use of new braking technology.
    • The rules require that the oldest, least safe tank cars be replaced within three years with new cars that have thicker shells, higher safety shields and better fire protection; a later generation of tank cars, built since 2011 with more safety features, will have to be retrofitted or replaced by 2020.
    • Regulators are not asking railroads to notify communities of any oil train traffic but will require a “point of contact” for information related to the routing of hazardous materials.

  • eBay: A No-Brainer [View article]
I can't believe someone else hasn't come into the space. I use it as well but hate the high fees. Whats extremely irritating is the fees on shipping charges...I went ballistic and called and complained about that...and you've seen what good that did...LOL

  • Zacks' Bull Of The Day: Ambarella Inc. [View article]
Love this company. Been in and out a couple times. Out right now...looking for a good entry point. Maybe if it breaks above the 50 day SMA. Right now the technicals are pretty weak.

  • Seadrill Ltd. Collapses After Suspending Its Dividend [View article]
The out of the money PUT buyers did very well...but didn't see that many contracts sold yesterday when I checked the option chain. One subscriber made a nice call yesterday.

  • Linn Energy (LINE -3.4%) and LinnCo (LNCO -4.3%) trade lower following a weekend Barron's article discussing that LINE's distributable cash flow may be overstated and concerns over the pending merger with Berry Petroleum (BRY -2.4%). Barron's long-held view is that LINE's accounting is aggressive because the company wants to recognize the financial benefits of the puts but not the costs. (earlier[View news story]
IBD rates LINE a very poor 6 overall. Just can't get much lower in their ratings.

  • Visa (V) CEO Charlie Scharf suggests his company plans to join MasterCard in placing fresh transaction fees on PayPal (EBAY) and other online payment services deemed to be digital wallets. "I think it is totally appropriate to do that." Wedbush's Gil Luria isn't surprised. "This is a fully functioning duopoly. When one does something, the other one follows suit." Concerns about fresh fees from transaction processors have already pressured eBay shares. [View news story]
Agree with your comments totally. What really surprises me is that no one has successfully competed with EBAY starting another auction site based on cutting the selling fees. Between Ebay and PayPal fees AND the fee you now pay on shipping I consider it a rip off.

  • eBay (EBAY +1.4%) is eliminating listing fees for most items and simplifying its commission fees, as it tries to sustain Marketplaces' resurgence and slow down Amazon's (AMZN -1.2%) rapid 3rd-party sales growth. Lower-margin items such as electronics will sport lower fee rates than higher-margin items such as clothing. eBay claims the moves, its first fee changes since 2010, will provide more transparency for merchants, who have complained of overly complicated pricing. Yesterday, Reuters reported of discontent among Amazon merchants over rising fees. [View news story]
I agree with you on the listing fee suspension...its no big deal at all. I had experienced fees of over 17% on some items...including PayPal. I thought it was a total rip off. If I didn't want the huge exposure on Ebay I wouldn't deal with the rip off. Now that there are search engines for all of Craigs List that is becoming an option.

EFS I'm not understanding your reply. At some point long term mtg rates will get back to 5%...even now they have edged up to about 3.6%. So what happens to share price of the agency mREITS when this happens? I'm not understanding what you mean about nominal rates being 8-9%.

  • 2 Brand New REITs That Have Strong Dividend Potential [View article]
I think the concept is very good. Friends of mine are now doing just this but on a much smaller local scale so they can get around to the properties to manage them. They have purchased lower priced condos in Orange Co, Ca and rented them out. The assets were in the under $100K range for the most part and involved no financing. Since local and small it is manageable. I have no idea how one would do this on a national level. Would take sophisticated management and infrastructure to cut the costs. I'm sure they have been down that road before and figured that out. I'm more of a wait and see how they do before I would get on board.

Would someone smarter than I am map out what what will happen to share price on all these mREITS when mtg rates go up to say 5% or a bit more. I'm not sure if their borrowing rates will move in conjunction with long term rates. Are the mREITS that invest in non agency paper any better positioned as those borrowers can't so easily refinance. Appreciate the insight.

The liberals will never want to stop giving homes to those who don't deserve them. Eventually this debacle will slip from their memories and the CRA will be back on full time. IVR deserves a look at this point.
