Instead of stabilization in Q2 as many – including the ECB – have been hoping for, the downturn could "intensify in the coming months." (PR[View news story]
I wonder what savers were earning during the depression, those that didn't lose their money when the banks went under?

The risk of deflation is far greater. Perhaps a return of the great depression to wipe the slate clean is what we need? All those complaining about Bernanke would really be howling then.

"Simple math is all that's needed to know that recession is a certainty." Mr Stuber, I presume you recognize this quote. Should we expect it in the current quarter? Seems everyone doesn't agree-

Mr Stuber, I respectfully disagree, this is a mere speed bump. I'm sure we'll top eventually but I believe the indicators will get us out near the top.

Why on earth would you quote John Hussman? He's as perma bear as they come. His claim to fame is that he beat the market in 2000-2002. Since then his performance is nothing to brag about. Eventually he will be right but like they say so is a stopped clock.

Jeff Miller over at "A Dash" has been much more bullish about the market and economy and consistently correct.

"That's why the Forbes 400 list doesn't include a single market timer."

That's a good one! Let's see, that Forbes 400 primarily has people that started businesses or inherited money. How many of them made it purely from investing?

  • Indicators Show Dumb Money Buying Stock Rally While Others Take Profits [View article]
"If we were to replace Exxon (XOM) with Google (GOOG) in the Dow, the Dow Industrial Average would instantly show a huge gain. This is because the stock price of Google is much higher (about $800) than the stock price of Exxon (about $89), even though Exxon is a more valuable company by market cap (about $300 billion), than Google (about $273 billion)."

That's not how it works, when companies are added and removed, the divisor is adjusted accordingly, therefore there is no change to the index value from changing constituents, it based purely on the price gains/losses of the member companies.
