Could you post a link to the analysis that supports all of these young people working 29.5 hours per week?

Weird, nobody at my company is working 29.5 hours per week, they are all working 40 or more, just like always. Since the Company is already paying the majority of healthcare premiums for these people, how does Obamacare affect the company?

  • UVXY Inflows Reveal A Strange Paradox That Could Be Preventing A Market Correction [View article]
Are you serious about the answer? 4Q-12 was flat, 1Q-13 up 1.1%, 2Q-13 prelim 1.7%. The oldest quarter pulls the average down and you say we're trending down? You've got blinders on, you only see data points that support your position. I see an economy that continues to muddle forward.

None of the recession prediction models see a recession on the horizon. 10 months is a long time to be wrong isn't it?

Just think, eventually you'll be right because at some point we will go into a recession, maybe you'll only have to wait another year or two, then you can claim you were right all along.

Hard to accept the truth when it flies in the face of your beliefs? Doesn't bode well for successful investing.

  • Why Stocks Continue To Levitate In The Face Of Eroding Economic Metrics: Ask Elizabeth Warren [View article]
I belive Mr Stuber has previously gone on record saying that we would go below the previous lows of 666 in short order based upon a huge crash. It would seem prudent to load up on puts while volatility
    is low.

To my knowledge and surprise, Mr Stuber is only around 10% short at this time. A large short trade here seems like the opportunity of a lifetime...

    JS,

The most important thing to remember is, You are right, the market is wrong, just keep repeating that, it will help you hold on to your position. Another tip, strap that tin foil helmet a little tighter, then they can't read your thoughts!

I won't deny that the Fed had a large hand in the mess in 2008 but you do realize that we had the same kinds of economic messes prior to the creation of the Fed?

Reflecting on the so-called June swoon or “Taper Tantrum” that brought major averages down from recent records, Ritholtz notes: “I’ve never heard such sturm und drang when we’re 5% off all-time highs. That’s typical of a post-crash, post-crisis psychology which has investors very skittish in cash on the sidelines.”

  • Stocks And Bonds Spike On The 'Bad Is Good' GDP Revision - Don't Expect The Rally To Hold [View article]
    Good point!

On the other hand if the consumer spends the money it may very well ripple thru the economy. Banks are sitting on the profits (or paying them out in bonuses to wealthy executives).

I read an article recently that one of the drags on the economy is the shift of wealth and income to the rich. Lower and middle income spend a higher percentage of their income than the wealthy. Is that entirely accurate, I don't know but there is no doubt that income has shifted from the middle class to the wealthy.

When the price of a good rises, when is it due to increased demand vs inflation? Are all price increases due to inflation, I think not?

Is the construction industry and the auto industry benefitting from low interest rates? Have people re-financed their existing mortgages at lower rates thereby providing additional discretionary expenditures?

Has the economy benefitted at all from this?

Thanks to both SO and RK for your replies. I think I get it now, the 2.25 premium on the short term option is basically equivalent to the amount of premium that would be left on the long term option when it has 32 days left to expiration assuming everything else is equal.
