  • North American Palladium: Desperate Times Call For Desperate Measures  [View article]
Can the author make some comments on:

Is PAL looking for a buyer?
Is PAL bringing up ore the the old fashion way with trucks or are they sitting on their hands waiting for a loan to finish the conveyor system?
What was the reasoning to take on this massive debt at such a high rate?
Couldn't they have found cheaper money or could they now find cheaper money?

  • Arch Coal - The Ideal Choice For Long-Term Investors To Play The Coal Market Rebound  [View article]
I concur with the conclusion of the article. ACI will be one of the first to bounce back. They have the money to sit it out.
America's Natural Gas will start to rise in price due to it being shipped over seas in lopsided amounts to imports of other fuels to here. We have a lot of gas, but that means money to be made by selling it overseas, not using it here.
Coal will have to be used again to produce the electrical power we need to keep the economy going. I believe Wind will be a non starter due to the cost of manufacturing the windmills and the environmental impact of the eagles and hawks being killed by the hundreds if not thousands. (Where is the EPA on this one?)
Solar may make a comeback by some like WEST that have AC conversion kits on each panel. Otherwise, the cheapest alternative to gas is coal.

  • Elephant Talk Communications Issues Update Letter To Shareholders  [View article]
There was a lawsuit over the handling of this stock. I think that may be why Mr. van der Velden purchased shares. To show he is with the program. I haven't heard much more about the lawsuit since his letter.
We own it, but it is down about 70% from where we purchased it. It sounds like they are making progress, but it seems no one is either following it or someone knows more about what is inside this company than I. I like the ideas they have. Now all they have to do is perform a little better.

  • American Capital Agency: What Will The Dividend Cut Yield?  [View article]
I sold AGNC on 9-11-12 at $35.55 when many on Seeking Alpha said to sell. To have held and still be happy with a 12% yield today at $24.03 is not very good considering I would have lost $11.52 per share had I kept it. That would have been a 33% loss just on my capital. It seems those that would have held on and are happy with the 12% dividend today are smoking something.

  • A Challenging Future Awaits Arch Coal  [View article]
And this year, the Arctic has a 60% larger ice cap than it did just last year. Instead of fearing Global Warming, scientists are now warning of a continous15 year lowering of temperatures resulting in a general cooling period which may last for over 30 years.

"I voted for the warming period, before I voted against it!", will be the political statement of the left next year.

Quality and Service of goods also has an effect on Pricing Power. Without Quality and Service to back you up, you will have your competitors lowering their prices to the point no one can make any money, hoping someone will fall out of the race. With this, only the one that can last the longest will survive at all. On the same token, a higher price doesn't always mean a higher Quality product.

Most people will buy a Quality or Serviceable product more than cheapest if Q & S products perform better. If they perform the same as the cheaper product, then Quality and Service will go out the window and price will prevail.

    A very smart neighbor told me when I was very young;

On hunting and fishing equipment: buy the best you can afford and take care of it.

  • A Dividend Portfolio For The Next Generation  [View article]
    Just some fun numbers...
We get gas through WeEnergy. I figured about $800 per year in cost. I was thinking that if I bought some shares in WEC that I could virtually get free gas the rest of my life!! At $1.53 div a share that would mean I need @ 523 shares. At today's price of $40.92/share, I'd only have to spend $21,396.00 to get free gas!! It would take me @27 years to get my money back for the stock shares ($800/year- no reinvesting) at the present price. With the rule of 72, the interest I would be getting on my money would be about 2.67%. At 66 now, I'd break even about age 93. Just was wondering if I should go for it!!!

  • Why Platinum Group Metals Is My Favorite Miner  [View article]
What are we missing that PAL hasn't been bought out by a larger miner? Is there more value there than meets the eye? Being just over a buck a share for such a long time, one would think they would break out soon or fade into a merger.

  • Why Gold And Silver Prices Are Not Headed For The Stratosphere  [View article]
This is an interesting article for those of us that are on the verge or entering retirement. As stated in the article, we are not going to spend (foolishly) on big ticket items. That is out of the question. We will spend our money on Medical care and food with what is left over used for taking the grandkids fishing or invest some for them.
We also are telling them to stop the foolish spending sprees that are ruining most people's lives these days. Over purchasing on a home or automobile is crazy and those that do it should be committed.
Saving to purchase the TV outright may be a challange, but you also may find you don't need it all that much when you do have the cash.
Deflation may come from this non-purchasing arrangement, but those that do the savings, will be those that have the money to purchase the necessities from those that over bought and now have to sell to survive.

  • Nvidia: The Bull Case Becomes Clearer And Stronger, Shares Still Have 40% Upside  [View article]
It is hard to understand the descriptions people are putting out. They look like computer swear words: @!##$!&!(+=.
Back in June of 2012 I read one of Ashraf's articles about NVDA being a good stock. Since then after looking at their spread sheets, and keeping up on their Headlines and announcements, I bought into it. Would like to say thank you Ashraf for the NVDA 20% gain on both my Wife's and my own Self directed IRA since. If you think it will go up to around $21.00, I certainly can not argue against it not knowing what you fellows know, but will enjoy the 66% gain when it happens. Looking forward to your next article - good or bad.
