Loopholes allowed Apple (AAPL) to avoid $44B in U.S. taxes from 2009-2012, claims a Senate report released shortly after Apple's official statement. Though peers have also been accused of using offshore havens, the report argues Apple went further by creating a subsidiary (responsible for ~1/3 of profits from 2009-11) that used differences in U.S. and Irish law to have no residence whatsoever. Sen. Carl Levin calls this "the Holy Grail of tax avoidance." Also, while Apple claims $6B in FY12 federal tax payments, the report claims the real number is $2.4B if one backs out deferred payments on foreign cash (only paid if/when the cash is repatriated) [View news story]
Go figure, now the liberal's don't like globalization?
if you had a moral compass senator you might entice apple to create some jobs back into that cesspool city of yours. 30+ years and you have done what for your state sir?

"They say unemployment rate, but they really mean" the S&P 500 (SPY), says David Rosenberg, referring of course, to the esteemed members of the FOMC. "After all, to get the wealth effect to work on spending, you have to generate the wealth," he continues. As for the sustainability of the rally in both equities and fixed income, Rosenberg is having déjà vu: "Distortions caused by negative real interest rates, the mis-pricing of risk and promotion of leverage sounds a lot like the previous cycle … enjoy it while you can." (Also: NYSE margin debt signals return of leverage) [View news story]
Hope I don't sound clueless & hope you don't mind some comments from a guy much less sophisticated than most here, but to Mr Rosenberg or U.S economists i would ask this" If the top 10 largest companies in the S&P 500 in 2011 were: Exxon Mobil, Apple, IBM, Chevron, General Electric, Microsoft, AT&T, Johnson & Johnson, Procter & Gamble and Pfizer, assuming no material change, I wonder how many of these companies are reducing employment in the U.S. and expanding overseas? So how the hell is this a proper gauge? I just briefly read http://bit.ly/123yCjG and I wonder how it will get better? Anyone try to get their high school kid a summer job lately? It seems that because our political parties cannot agree on any type of fiscal policy to help plant the seeds for prosperity "inside" this country, because we will not demand and make it economical to invest in this country anymore, americans now have to rely on the banking system to run fiscal policy in this country? I feel like I am witnessing the intentional destruction of the middle class of our country.
Goldman Sachs thinks today's weakness in Intuitive Surgical (ISRG -4.7%) is a buying opportunity, on the back of what it calls a "solid" Q1 report. Procedure growth may have fallen short of expectations, but Goldman thinks the slowdown looks consistent with trends across the space (seasonality, declines in hospital admissions), and the impact from negative headlines, while unclear and will take time to prove out, are not material. There's trouble brewing again in sovereign bailout land as Portugal's Constitutional Court strikes down austerity measures in a binding decision that is expected to create a gap of €860M in the country's budget. The move could put Portugal's international bailout package in jeopardy although some economists believe a workaround is possible, according to WSJ. [View news story]
Apple (AAPL -0.4%) has cut its calendar Q2 iPad Mini orders to the 10M-12M range, sources tell Digitimes, which is generally better at reporting on supply chain activity than future product launches. The site claims the cut is due to "increased competition" from 7" Android tablets, but adds Apple is adjusting reserves ahead of a likely calendar Q3 refresh. AU Optronics (AUO -2.6%) and LG Display (LPL +0.2%) supply LCD panels for the Mini. [View news story]
The techies & chart reader's better at that than me, but there is something distinctively wrong with how apple is treated. by the market, by the media, maybe even gov't's,both foreign & USA.
maybe the liberal media doesnt like the treatment of its foxconn worker's, i just have never seen or heard such negative press about apple. maybe some of it is warranted. Maybe its just they are not playing wall st game. does street want more buybacks?bigger dividend?less dividend?no dividend? better utilization of cash? something is different and its not all Jobs to Cook transition. if this stock doesnt rally monday or Tuesday, its going down another 50 pts from here...........

Kindle (AMZN) e-reader panel shipments are expected to fall from 750K in January and 420K in February to a mere 20K/month in March and April, Digitimes reports. Though orders are expected to pick up in 2H (inventory cuts are likely playing a role here), the report drives home the cannibalizing impact soaring tablet demand continues to have on e-reader sales. "The real issue is what impact if any the data will have on ISRG and I believe the data since there are so many (non-fellowship trained) hacks practicing on people, there are more complications. However, the company is masterful at pushing the technology so I would not bet against them" thank you for your professional in the trenches info, its alot more valuable than input from people who just are long or short the stock. You nailed what the issue is . Go to the 3rd citron report. Inbedded in their is a pdf file of a current lawsuit...They have what looks to be documented evidence showing they train the sales team for 9 weeks, and train the doctors for 2 days.. In laymens terms here, ISRG should have linked with some type of medical training college but tried to handle the training in house and cut the training that they indicated they promised the FDA would be required...Thats where they went wrong. I do not believe the robots are going away, its just there seems to be a lack of qualified Dr's fully trained on the robot's. Not to mention the higher costs, ObamaCare..
