Private Equity, Business Flipping and Asymmetrical Outcomes

I've read pieces in business publications warning about more restrictions in the boardrooms of publicly-owned companies as that would force the "brains" into private equity. So, the abusers we see in public corporations (assured generational wealth for failure) are mostly pikers and amateurs.
I've read since the 80's of this "new" capitalism of leveraging assets by whatever means necessary, which seems to throw someone under the bus publicly from time to time. Like, Michael Milken or Charles Keating. I never really saw their sins stand out from the norm that much, but, someone up there must know what they're doing, right?
And they throw Martha Stewart and Leona Helmsley into show trials. Guardians of virtue proved the public interest is protected always. Meanwhile, word of off-balance-sheet obligations keeps coming up on Wall St. and Washington, along with leveraged takeovers, but, we have more accountants than anywhere and the highest paid leaders, so, we must have the highest standards, why worry?
Now, in the meltdown, even Cerberus gets bailed out with Chrysler. McCain, of the Keating 5 runs for president without a peep from the past. But, this article puts lots of pieces together of the "capitalism" that has privileged these oligarchs financially beyond any in history; it's always, heads they win, tails, we lose.
Now that they've sucked all the equity out of everything standing in the country, they wouldn't mind eliminating remaining pesky rights for average citizens, I'm sure.
