I graduated from NYU (NYC) and then went to work on Wall Street and started investing in "blue chip" stocks and accumulating them and letting them appreciate and multiply. I never tried to "get rich overnight" (i.e. gamble in the stock market). The result is that my net worth and my income are such that I was able to easily put my children through professional degrees and am doing same for my grandchildren and living very comfortable with a great dividend income (and with the security of a great amount of accumulated net worth). The long term, conservative strategy is simple and self-fulfilling. My best investment ever, and still today, is in Proctor & Gamble, a true Dividend Aristocrat that never stops giving!
