  • Is It Finally Time To Sell Coca-Cola? [View article]
David you are WRONG again. I don't understand your logic at all and your record with your $100,000 portfolio is terrible. You are underwater in a majority of your picks and you have sold others for a loss. Now you are saying KO should be avoided. Maybe for a brief time if you are a trader, but if you are investor KO is a buy anytime it pulls back. Think of the splits, dividend and appreciation of the stock over time. It is a compounding machine. KO is at the center of my investment folio. You should pick up some for your Street Authority 100,000 portfolio. It could use a refreshing lift.

  • Starbucks Is Undervalued [View article]
Christopher, I agree, but it has not formed a bottom or double bottom but I do not think a P/E of 26.98 is low enough. I firmly believe this stock is too expensive at present and a fair price would be in the $38 range. At least I will not purchase it again until then. I like the stock but I think it will go lower even if it has an upward run for awhile. If it doesn't I can find other stocks with better fundamentals then Starbuck's to purchase for now. I can wait for my price. I am not in a hurry and I do not want to buy it and watch it decline. I've been there and done that several times and I am trying to be more patient,. Now Pitney Bowes has formed a double bottom and this company has CASH & a good DIVIDEND. I think it is going to go up soon. I am watching it carefully as I am Starbuck's.

If you think Starbuck's is a long buy then why are you not purchasing sharae of this stock?

I agree that Starbuck's has a great niche in the coffee industry BUT there is no way I would buy this stock at the current price. It is overbought, below the MACD line. Its price is below the 50, 100, and 200 EMA and the 50 day EMA has crossed under the the 100 day EMA and close to crossing below the 200 EMA. If you will look at the graph you will see that the stock dropped a lot when the 50 day moving average crossed below the 100 day EMA. Don't let your love for the coffee get in the way of your investing. Wait until the price crosses above the 50 EMA before purchasing shares, This stock needs to fall below $40 a share, maybe $37 dollar a share before it is an investment buy.

  • The Bull Case: 3 Reasons Spectrum Pharmaceuticals Is A Buy [View article]
Basically, people are fearful and scared. Newspapers, television, talk-show host (liberal and well as conservative" spew out negativity 24/7. So, it is no wonder more people checked out the "sell" article than the "buy" article. You are either a trader or an investor. I am an investor. If I believe a company has a good business model and has a product people need or want, and is making money quarter-after-quarter, and is headed by a forward looking CEO than I will buy and hold for at least a year to see what they can do. People have been trying to beat down SPPI for over a year. I am staying with the company until those reasons for why I bought the stock in the first place no longer exist. There are always people wanting to discredit a stock for their own purposes. There is no integrity anymore; everyone seems to be out for themselves and the hell with everyone else. Being honest, truthful, and fair seem to have gone by the wayside in business, politics, and the news media. I do not trust very many writers on Seeking Alpha. Most do not even understand how the market works, much less know anything about a particular company.

  • A Look At Coca-Cola After Its Recent Stock Split [View article]
This is close to being one of my "forever" stock because it has worldwide recognition, a simple product, an outstanding distribution of its product, name recognition and probably sold in more countries than any other product (do not know that for a fact). For me to add more I want to see the price come down some from the high. It has come down .14 in the last 7 days but I won't buy any new shares until it get a bit lower. This is a great company though.

  • Yahoo (YHOO) U.S. sales chief Wayne Powers has left the company to become President of Parade Publications. Powers' departure, expected by many, is the latest in a series of sales personnel losses for Yahoo that recently led one insider to warn Q3 and Q4 ad revenue could be light. It could be just a matter of time before Powers' former boss, Chief Revenue Officer Michael Barrett, follows him out the door. [View news story]
I do not see this as a reason to worry or sell your position in Yahoo! I see it as Marissa Meyers assembling her own team to move the company forward. It will take some time to get all the people in place and in the meantime those who own the stock for the long run can pick up extra shares at a discount. I believe Marissa is the right person to move this company forward. She has a lot to prove and I believe she is the right woman to do it. I am glad she is at the head of this company. She was the reason I took a long position in Yahoo!

  • The U.S. high yield default rate (trailing 12-month average) falls to 2% in July from 2.2% previously, reports Fitch, which continues to expect the rate to move higher, perhaps hitting 3% by year's end. A survey of money managers reveals a gloomy outlook, with participants seeing feeble GDP growth and the consequent deterioration for the high-yield sector. [View news story]

  • Yahoo (YHOO) has begun searching for a COO to act as its #2 officer, Kara Swisher reports. "Several Silicon Valley execs and others outside of tech" have reportedly been contacted, and Yahoo is said to be interested in "someone with a focus on restructuring and also finance," so as to complement Marissa Mayer's product development skills. I vote for Marissa Mayers. I hope all of you people who think she is not going to do anything will be kind enough to write again when she is successful in turning this company into a profitable giant. I am long on Yahoo because of Marissa Mayers. Go girl!

  • The FTC yesterday said pharmaceutical companies are delaying generic competition by making patent settlement agreements in which they pledge not to launch their own copycat medicines. The FTC made the comments in a case involving CVS and Rite Aid (RAD), which are suing Pfizer (PFE) and TEVA for conspiring to keep generic versions of the antidepressant Effexor XR out of stores. [View news story]
Are you telling me that the Federal Government can demand a private company to manufacture and sell a certain product even if they do not want to do it? They not only want to punish the tobacco companies for selling a legal product, but now they want to make sure all these pharmaceutical companies manufacture generic drugs when the patents expire.

  • Yahoo's (YHOO -0.8%) latest executive changes: HR chief David Windley has left as part of a department shake-up, and co-founder David Filo, who has maintained a low profile in recent years, will now be reporting to CEO Marissa Mayer. Also, legal exec Ron Bell has become Yahoo's permanent general counsel - Mike Callahan, the prior holder of that title, resigned following the Facebook debacle. Stifel downgraded Yahoo to Hold today on concerns about Mayer's cash-deployment review.(previous: I, II, III[View news story]
I am betting on Marissa Mayer to turn Yahoo around and make it a great company. I do not expect this to happy soon; there is lot of work to be done. Yahoo has been moving sideways for a long time. The company did a great thing when they hired her. I can just hear her former employees at Google wondering and questioning her move to Yahoo. She has a lot to do to turn this company around. But if anyone can do it it would be her, I am extremely confident that she is the right person for this job. I personally hope she uses the money from the sale to grow Yahoo. It will bring more value in the long run than a one time dividend to shareholders. I have already noticed a difference with minor changes and a reorganization of positions in the company. I am sure she will attract some talented people to Yahoo. I really believe this company will do well under her leadership. This is not a play for traders, but a long-term investment opportunity for people who believe it is important to have a "doer" at the helm than a "bluffer". Marissa is a doer and she is going to propel Yahoo's stock price to new heights. It is going to be exciting to watch. I am LONG on Yahoo under Marissa's watch.

  • Starbucks May Perk Up Soon [View article]
I think Starbuck's is a good company. I've owned it several times but the P/E is way to high. Although you say it is in-line with growth companies it is not really growing. In fact Starbuck's has lowered its earnings and revenue for next year even if the analysts have not. I believe this stock is over-priced and if it gets down into the 30s than maybe it will be more attractive. The price of coffee is supposed to be lower but if the rains come then coffee will be more expensive. I will wait to see if Starbuck's price drops further. I am certainly not in any rush to purchase shares while it is in the $40 range. I may be wrong, but there are still too many red flags waving internally inside this company and also red flags flying throughout the world. Lots of things could get worse and I am not a bear, but I am realistic.

So what is your opinion concerning the prospects of this stock? Why is Cintas Corportation a competitor? I thought they provided uniforms for people working in places like Starbuck's etc.

I am delighted; I hope SPPI continues to grow and that sales increase. Do they have any other drugs that may be approved by the FDA late this year or into 2013? I have been long on SPPI for a couple of years.
