I sell puts on the bird flu scares. Pays better than the dividend until the market takes it's dive into that scary place.

  • Buy This High Dividend Stock Yielding Over 8% As A Play On The World's Best Economy [View article]
"Is there any way to get around the 25% Norway dividend withholding tax?"

No, it comes out of the dividend through your broker. Canada has an agreement with the US that waives their tax if stock is held in an IRA, but as far as I know, not so for the Norway tax.

  • A Day In The Life [View article]
    Chowder or anyone:

Just sold KRFT on Friday. I was going to hold it initially, but it seems to be getting too frothy, and with 12-15 years of dividends already in my pocket, I sold. Any thoughts on a replacement? Bought a few good and terribly undervalued MLP's in December, and even a bond trading 25% under par on a company I know will be fine.

Tough right now to find undervalued good dividend stocks. Bought TGT at $58; my last good "accidental" high yielder. Replacing KRFT was why I was going to hold, but this run up seems to be pricing in perfection.

Holding O for years; just got added to the S&P! Nice.

As a MLP, why do you talk about DIVIDENDS?? I own several MLP's, and they provide DISTRIBUTIONS, which have substantially different tax consequences.

Anyone looking at this company needs to know the difference, understand what a K-1 is, and know what they are getting themselves into before they buy this limited partnership.

  • Johnson & Johnson: Buying More Shares [View article]
VHT has a yield of 0.96%----> pretty big price to pay for diversification. When the market has a large correction, all stocks will go, so VHT will get hit just as will JNJ. Over time, I would rather have a solid dividend aristocrat like JNJ in my portfolio, reinvesting quarterly, and having the dividend increase as it has been doing.

They will deal with the lawsuits, the bad deeds, the dirty secrets as do all companies. JNJ is not alone in corporate misdeeds.

Anyone watching CBNC on March 10, 2009 could have. Best show I ever watched.

In this clip from the March 10, 2009 edition of CNBC's Squawk on the Street, the late Mark Haines tells Erin Burnett, "I think we're at a bottom. I really do."
