No - just saying that all things equal it would be harder to create a competitor for one of the big energy companies than anyof the biggest techs. We value tech companies like the tulip bulbs in Holland. Its nothing but Ponzei and 2000 all over again. Young investors love tech because its their life. You tend to invest in things you know and understand and most of the young investors of today (IMO) don't have a long term focus, rather more like instant Karma.

Agree with you about ups and downs in energy, but not really as serious as you think. Even the worst years are nothing more than a slight blip on the top and bottom lines. The human race continues to grow and this means more energy consumption.

With few exceptions (like Apple with Jobs and MS with Gates) almost all of the great tech companies were destroyed by competition. After all, its only one click away to 6' under for Google. May not happen tomorrow or even in 5 years, but it will happen and long before any of the big energy cos goes bankrupt.

You can make lotsa money in/out of tech, but to buy one company and sit, not for me and I did quite well being out of the tech bubble. When the guy from Facebook happens to have a neat idea and ends up being worth more (adj for inflation) than JP Morgan who literally saved the entire US economy at one point, something is deadly wrong.

The only way someone would value Apple more than Exxon is to believe that, in the long run, is would be harder to startup a company to compete with Apple than it would to compete with Exxon.

I think the main issue with Apple is sustainability ex Jobs. Look at past history for answers here.
