  • The Exxon Mobil 'Conundrum'  [View article]
I know I'll be beaten over the head for this, but prices paid for stocks eventually reflect earnings, which themselves dictate how a dividend gets paid whether out of cash or asset sales or borrowing. The method chosen shows weakness or strength. Unless of course repatriating money is being avoided. In the end the PE always rules for dividends and stock price. Oil better rise for XOM to keep it's price. 30 yr. holder here. And I would summit it is far from cheap.

  • Valuations could weigh on stocks before earnings  [View news story]
Slight correction. The pe at the height of "dot com" was in the 30's. And that was trailing earnings on "reported earnings", not pro forma on forward earnings as the street loves you to believe so that equity prices can be stretched to the point of silliness. They make the rules on how to evaluate in their churches, and then preach them at their sermons which so many people attend. And of course you know their objective.

  • Oil prices are headed higher, two top investors say  [View news story]
When the Russians sell their oil, they get the stronger dollar. Hope this makes sense to you. It's not the currency, it's supposedly the supply. And as others have noted, manipulation/perception is the rule of the game. Russia has something like 1/2 trillion in cash reserves.

You are correct about management. Simple discussion and straight forward always. That with a hefty dividend makes this one a keeper as long as it's environment doesn't change. One always has to assess the environment. I followed mobilepreacher into this, but long after he had been pounding the table on it. And my best friend bought some and is now traveling while his dividends roll in.

The stock was 12% higher to all-time high before settling back. I think you meant yearly high. Was 28 around IPO time, when it was foisted into the market much to expensively.

  • Now Is The Time To Buy Chevron  [View article]
and I would like to remind you that "real" companies have a correlation between price and earnings. Have you taken down your earnings estimates and then adjusted the PE. just curious. On expected year end 2016 earnings with a 13x(high side) pe i come up with an $85 stock price. I'd wait and buy lower.

  • Why I'm Thinking About Selling Realty Income, And Buying Chevron With The Proceeds  [View article]
You say CVX is cheap w/ a low pe. What if earnings fior 2015 year end are $7.50?
And what if oil reserves retreat in price? What would that do to book value? What if oil stays at $50 for two more years? The last decade has been a win for oil. Will the next ten? Just some things to keep in mind.
