The difference (and a slight one) is that unlike the other companies mentioned in your article, the solar industry is not only getting both public and private (corporate) funding, it is still growing. I remember reading in Fisher's book Uncommon profits for common stocks that if you can find growing companies that get both levels of funding, stick with it until that changes.
