  • Cyprus Will Bring The Red With It [View article]
Remember, the Cypriot Parliment still has to vote to approve this entire measure. The timing of this is interesting - long weekend in Europe.
This is nothing more than a grand exersize, likened to a "ping" sent by the EU, IMF, UST and US FED to test the reaction in world markets. There are darker interpretations, but let's not get paranoid.

A more tangible interpretation is that public deficits are being forced into the private sector when other measures fail.

Instead of forcing stock shareholders into bonds (ala GM in the USA via an executive ordered bailout), new measures are being used as an experiment. Coercing bank ownership and future natural gas derivatives onto savings account owners, as a proposed compensation for theft.

    The experiment is :
What happens when savings accounts are stolen overnight?......well, since it's a small experiment on a small island in the Mediteranean, shouldn't be a big deal. Let's just see.

The following weeks will tell. Very interesting to see what global media says as well as the markets.

  • Market recap: The S&P 500 broke below 1,500 and the Dow declined more than 200 points, shortly after hitting a new multi-year high, as the prospect of a hung parliament in Italy renewed scary scenarios of widening sovereign debt yields and another flare-up of the eurozone debt drama. The uncertainty also sank Treasury yields to one-month lows, and pushed gold and industrial commodities sharply higher. [View news story]
Moreover, interest rates led market down. It's seems a little humorous to me it was about the Italian election, but look how it affected currencies. It was time for a correction in SP500 anyway, just needed a nudge. Europe been quiet for some time, they just turned the microphones back on.

  • Why Fed Wants A Correction [View article]
Thanks for the article. Good headline, but very weak, abbreviated and shallow arguments.

  • The Cyprus deal is now a template for the rest of the eurozone, Eurogroup President Jeroen Dijsselbloem tells Reuters' Luke Baker. He's naturally referring to bailing-in uninsured depositors, but does he also mean capital controls and border checks for cash? Other eurozone countries need to work quickly, he says, to overhaul their own banking sectors. [View news story]
What happens when all accounts are spread out not to exceed 100k? The banking problems are still there. The rules will change overnight, and include capital controls and a reduction or further complication of "EU Deposit Guarantee Schemes (DGS)".

  • In the wake of the recent school tragedy in Connecticut, California Treasurer Bill Lockyer is proposing that CalPERS and CalSTRS, the state's two public pension funds, divest themselves of gun makers. "I want BlackRock (BLK), I want Credit Suisse (CS), I want everyone else to know that we're going to use our economic leverage if it's up to me, and I hope other private investors will do the same thing," Lockyer says. "They (the gun-makers) ought to feel the economic consequences of their bad behavior." [View news story]
Well, treasurers sure have the option for running for another office. After all, why settle for a job that has no hope of success when you can run for something better. Good luck to him, and to California.

  • Why I'm More Confident Of My Herbalife Short Position Today [View article]
dabomb...I like that statement. Makes sense, Icahn doesn't need to counter Ackman's plea, he's smarter and older. Plus he can change the company from the inside if he chooses.

  • U.S. clears way for some oil exports by Pioneer Natural, Enterprise Products [View news story]'s the problem. Your assumption is that it is a gradual policy. Maybe...but I suspect that the world isn't that organized. So, there is the possibility of news manipulation and "quid pro quo" between central banks causal to bumpy ride.. especially during mid-term elections in USA.

Hmm...same amount of comments you and I. Hope I can sleep. Slightly rattled :)

  • J.C. Penney Company Inc. beats by $0.17, misses on revenue [View news story]
"J.C. Penney cruises past earnings estimates " wasn't this the SA headline to this thread? Then the headline (above) is "J.C. Penney Company Inc. beats by $0.17, misses on revenue " which is it? Absolutely pathetic...sickening.

The only cruise $JCP shareholders are taking is a "Missouri boat ride on a trash barge". Cruise...give me a break.

  • Don't Worry About Being 'Right'; Focus On Risk Vs. Reward [View article]
Outstanding article. Thanks. Reminds me of risk/reward in a business vs. personal finances, or flying as a private pilot. What is the risk vs. reward in taking weather risks? What is the risk to your family or friends for taking a flight into weather obscuration? Will you survive if you don't make the wedding or important business meeting? Risk assessment and situational awareness is something everyone needs in business, employment, and personal dealings. It's a management skill that changes with age, and responsibility to others.

Regarding the conference call, it was simply awful. I have no idea what these guys are trying to portray other than pure disdain for any owners of $TSLA stock. It's quite honorable in a way.

  • J.C. Penney higher after issuing update [View news story]
If $JCP says it will have $2B on tap at end of year, then who's going to contradict them? Oh yeah, they will contradict themselves, possibly within 24 hours. Considering opening puts again on this bounce.
