  • Apple Should Rehire Ron Johnson For Its Own Good [View article]
Thank you, Michael Blair. In my decades of owning AAPL, I have, of course, taken some small amounts of profit from time to time, but only in recent years. I've also added to my holdings on dips a few times along the way. But I've hung on to the great majority of my original AAPL shares since the early '90s. I've lost track of trying to calculate my total return. I didn't initially acquire a large number of shares, but it turned out I didn't need to the way the stock has performed (understatement of the century). The lowest price I can remember acquiring shares at was between 15 and 20.

  • Apple Should Rehire Ron Johnson For Its Own Good [View article]
Samsung hiring Ron Johnson will never happen, simply due to the secrets he walked out with. Just the act of hiring him would trigger a lawsuit in a millisecond. His departure from Apple, with all the winnings he took with him, was surely as legally bullet-proof as anything you could imagine.

  • Apple (AAPL -0.1%) roundup: 1) 9to5 Mac has noticed an Apple job listing for a "display specialist" to work on "emerging display technologies such as high optical efficiency LCD, AMOLED and flexible display." iWatch rumors have mentioned a flexible display. 2) In-line with earlier scoops, the Korea Times reports Apple has shut out Samsung from A7 processor development in favor of TSMC (TSM) and its 20nm process. This suggests A7-based hardware will arrive in 2014. 3) Morgan Stanley expects a "killer app" to be launched for the iPhone 5S, and names a mobile payment solution as a possibility. [View news story]

  • Apple: Trading Faster Than The Rest [View article]
Too bad about that first commenter. He obviously hasn't benefited from AAPL -- poor guy. Stephen, this was a very interesting article. You're right, a worthy topic. But I think there are still many true fanboys out there who do buy and hold -- going way, way back. You know, guys who have other things to do on their Apple computers besides stare at stock charts all day. If they follow along closely with what Apple (the company) is doing, however, they're able to take a little profit at the peaks and buy on the dips. I stand accused. Makes me a better fanboy.

  • Mobile Ads Growing Rapidly: Apple Leads In Monetizing Content [View article]
Thank you for this article, Andy -- good stats and insight into a topic not written about much outside the ad industry. But you leave me hanging when you say this: "Apple needs to make its iAd platform a success... it's only a matter of time till iAd starts to dominate the mobile advertising space." That's quite a leap of faith in one sentence. It's well known the iAd platform has been a so-so performer for Apple. The article would benefit from some insight here as to how you think it might dominate. From my viewpoint, most observers still see that as very much an open question.

    three thoughts come to mind:

    - good brands build value by performing in the marketplace (Apple)
    - bad brands lose value by continually stepping on their dick (NYT)
