Google results demonstrate a level of execution rarely seen. When you couple the tremendous database buildup with their web applications, the "sapper" strategy is nearly flawless. The Yahoo development is exactly what Google was planning as it ties up MSFT cash and resources.
The valuation gymnastics required to justify MSFT at $50 are entertaining. Thanks. Ironically, Microsoft's best piece of programming, Windows CE/Mobile/Smartphone, developed at great cost and with continued large subsidy, is seeing strong competition from Apple's embedded version of OSX in the iPhone, and the soon to be released, and open, Google phone. How long before that competition spreads to the entire embedded market (e.g. automobiles)? There are opportunities for Microsoft, if they can move first and fast, with conviction and proper management, but I have not seen company-wide evidence for this yet.

Microsoft's entry into CRM is extraordinarily late. Why? It is because MSFT management continue to be reactive and defensive. Microsoft cannot easily establish the needed leverage in this area in the near term (i.e., several years) to accomplish meaningful market penetration and retention. Past methods of "strong arm" sales techniques will only serve to inoculate the market from Microsoft products even further. Microsoft hegemony is over. See also,

Microsoft is continuously chasing Google's growth strategy using the only method that Gates and company was good at, namely acquisitions. However, this is actually part of Mountainview's strategy to weaken the Redmond giant.
