  • When To Hold And When To Fold: Atlantic Power Corp. And Just Energy Group [View article]
The calls I sold expired worthless. Now I have a small gain in my AT position.
I am currently waiting to sell more calls.

  • AMD Looks Finished [View article]
I surely should. I happen to think the console business is underestimated by the author. The PS3 and xbox 360 had completely different CPUs and GPUs. This is the first time ever both gaming behemoths (Sony, MSFT) use the same supplier for all chips (AMD). Now AMD is in a position to become the preferred GAMING CHIPMAKER for all platforms including PC. Develop a game for APUs and release it across all non mobile platforms at once: No costly recoding for Cell, Power PC and Intel/AMD.
The console business will be huge this time around. MSFT versus Sony: the winner is AMD.

And I would be very unhappy if good old AMD vanished.

No positions in any of companies mentioned.

Agreed, this company is comparing to INTC like AAPL compared to MSFT about 12 years ago (except no superhero is waiting to save it).

I managed to sell calls against my position in time. Those are now better than 90% in the green. Consider myself lucky...

  • AMD: Leaks Reveal A Dose Of Reality About The Low End Of The PC Space [View article]
Consoles, low end PCs/Notebooks (especially for the Indian market) and GPUs for ?coin mining should be enough to keep AMD alive - possibly even kicking. IMO things rarely looked as rosy as now for AMD.

  • Intel: Don't Believe Bloomberg's Google Rumor [View article]
Sounds like: What happens if Albania declares war on the US? ( I read hat phrase in a post on SA. Credit to the original author whose name I forgot.)
The correct answer is: Not much. It seems naive to think INTC will be overrun by a first attempt from a newbie. The server business is the margin star so INTC will defend it by any means. I think INTC may do foundry stuff for ARM customers and other clients at TICK and their own stuff at TOCK.

  • Did Sony Botch The Playstation 4 Launch? A Different Opinion [View article]
For me MSFT has lost the console war. I saw three of my x360s breaking and two of them in short order (after scratching my games). Big softie denied to refund the games (I got 2 new 360, however) and I was not feeling like dragging them to court over 100 bucks is a good idea. My ps2 still works despite heavy usage and old age.

That, said lest KOTOR 3 comes exclusively for xbox1 I will not buy one.

  • Samsung's New Strategy Is A Worry For Apple [View article]
Samsung is the most competitive hardware company in the world. Not only smarthones but just about every component for everything from washing, heating, cooling and freezing to all kinds of chips, SSDs and screens of all sizes and flavors are made by Samsung. Today you can not competitively produce any top notch hardware without Samsung. Not even a hairdryer or a microwave oven. This is a low margin business with big reliance on scale.

Apple is a premium brand offering a smoothly integrated experience and good support for a price.

That being said a comparison between Apple and Samsung makes little sense.

  • Intel: Mobile Is All Upside [View article]
I respectfully disagree. If I was forced to pick either INTC or MSFT my choice would clearly be INTC.

    1. INTC is platform independent (Windows, Mac OS, Chrome, Android etc.)

    2. All sorts of devices (cars, air conditioners, fridges, TVsets, cameras, phones) require or will require one or more chips. Iam not sure if they will need Windows...

  • Is It Possible? The Amazing Value Play In Sony And Its Subsidiaries... [View article]
Thank you. I am based in Europe and there is a clear sentiment towards preferring Sony over Microsoft for next gen consoles. Not only because of MSFTs (now reversed) DRM policy and the high price but also because of notoriously poor xbox hardware quality. Sony TV sets are winning or at least occupying top spots in comparisons. Their smartphones are getting more competitive and get more advertising support from carriers.

And Sony is the best acquisition target for Apple or Google if they decide they want to really annoy big Softie.

I have no positions or intentions in either company...just trolling.

  • Is It Possible? The Amazing Value Play In Sony And Its Subsidiaries... [View article]
Sony seems to go back to greatness. The PS4 will outperform Xbox to the point where MSFT will see some heads rolling. Sonys TV sets are now turning up the heat on Samsung in terms of both price and quality as well as efficiency. Sony could get rid of some unprofitable or low margin segments and focus on rebuilding its brand as a premium integrated hardware, software, media and services company.

  • Intel: Mobile Is All Upside [View article]
So what? Microsoft may have little future outside servers and die hard PC. Intel has a future with Apple and Chrome OS. Even Samsung uses Intel chips in their latest Galaxy iterations...
