    That is market timing with macroeconomics tools.

    So many say it does not work.

    Wish I could see the growth of a given amount of $ for some given historical periods of time taking into account these macroƩconomics tools,compared with the simple 60/40 allocation for the same time periods,

    How about preferred that get a periodic rate adjustment? Should general interest go up, the coupon on these preferred would also go up counteracting any principal decline.

    Protective PUT hedges will be costly in a stable or rising market and reduce the expected porfolio yield.

    Just for the exercice, let us assume we have a 1,000,000 $ portfolio yielding 4%.(40,000$ yearly)
    What would be the yearly cost of a put ( or a serie of puts) that would maintain the 1,000,000 value of the portfolio ? Let us then see how it would reduce the yield.

    But assuming there is no 3% return on shares, would it not be sufficient to keep pace with inflation that there is a 3% dividend growth ?
