IMO Too many investors try to increase their wealth by getting in and out of stocks at selected prices, only to miss the mark. I buy good companies that are managed well and buy more on dips.

Why do you expect to lose on the currency conversion, especially if the dollar tanks which is more likely than not.

I am in it for a gain, be it small, but trimming the dividend will save some money and pump the stock price. Waiting around for a buyer or a couple of Canadian pipelines to take the product to New Brunswick or Vancouver is not in the too distant future. IMO Sending it to Louisiana is a waste of energy.

I noticed your date of post was in 2009 and the stock has appreciated well since that date while paying a dividend along the way. It is just another of my winners.

Have you contracted to buy your propane supply this winter? The retailers don't even publish prices, you have to call to get a quote.

"Is FGP up because it represented a great value, or is it up because of yield-starved investors plowing into anything that looks like a stable 5-8% cash payout, irrespective of valuation or risk?"
Quite possibly so. People are like sheep running for cover, which makes it easy to buy the lows and sell the highs. The pattern is almost predictable. You can make 8% on the dividend and 8% on short term gains. Is that not better than money in the bank or invested in silver?

It is far more likely that FGP will be a take over candidate. Some wealthy speculator will buy them out and change the paradigm. This happens more and more especially with the looming cost of benefits for employees. Is anyone here old enough to remember Meditrust or Leviathan pipeline lp?

Excellent perspective. even if you hold until your cost basis is zero Your children will inherit it for market value. This is a great way to pass along wealth.

Ah Yes, analysts and their crystal balls. None have proved to be more accurate than I am. No one knows what the future can bring except constant change.
As for stock ownership? Only the truly wealthy hold the majority position and will never give up control. Are the employees of FGP happy? Ask a few.

I have owned This MLP since 1981 when I retired. I'm now 79 years old and still own it. I have not been required to sell the principal but occasionally I do spend the dividends. Will the dividends be there for me when I am 100 years old?

FGP makes an excellent play to give to your grandchildren with your cost basis reduced to zero they assume ownership at market value. I always gift my children and grand children with MLP stocks.
