  • Kinder Morgan Energy Partners: Why Not Consider This Outstanding Wealth Building Machine? [View article]
KMP has never reported a penny of UBTI. That said, KMI would be a better fit for an IRA.

If your investment horizon is one year, you should hide your money under the mattress. You don't have the mindset to come out ahead in this game.

Unlike 95% of the people on here, Sumflow knows what he's talking about. Pay attention if you are new to this game. His reference to book value above reminds me of something Richard Kinder said a couple of months ago: "You sell. I'll buy and we'll see who comes out ahead in the long run."

  • Rebuttal: Kinder Morgan Vs. AMLP, An MLP ETF [View article]
When the tax basis gets low, just buy some more to raise it. UBTI, K-1, cost basis, etc. Good grief! Everyone is trying to complicate something that is really very simple. Are some of you the "talking heads" on CNBC?

KMR and KMP are fine in a taxable account--KMI (a C-Corp) is better in an IRA.

  • Kinder Morgan Energy Partners: Why Barron's Is Flatly Wrong Regarding MLPs [View article]
PendragonY. That's true as far as it goes, if you're looking at yield percentage only. I'm old and I don't want to pay commission every 3 months to get my dividend--I also may want to re-invest them in another equity. Re-investing KMP's distribution offers nearly the same return, while giving you other options. Nothing wrong with KMR and I wouldn't mind having them (I've written several still outstanding PUTS on them and will be happy to buy them at the strike). Everyone's situation is different and--thankfully--Kinder Morgan offers an investment vehicle for whatever your situation might be. Sumflow and Arthur know more about these securities than any analyst I've heard; Llisten to them.

That's correct. You get additional shares based on the average close 10 days prior to the ex-div...when they are typically higher. That's one of the reasons KMR trades at a discount to KMP.

  • Kinder Morgan Energy Partners: Why Barron's Is Flatly Wrong Regarding MLPs [View article]
KMI has suspended the IDRs for two years on KMP. E&P sector declining? That's exactly wrong; that sector is seeing substantial production growth through CO2 injection.

70% of KMP's debt is fixed-rate. KMI owned EPB has 100% fixed-rate financing in place.

The majority of PSEC's loans are floating-rate, while all of their debt is fixed-rate. Sounds like a good recipe to me.
