Reading my post I see that I counted the days back incorrectly. The ex-div date is Friday, Oct 19. Sorry for any confusion.

The data on Yahoo hasn't been updated. The following is from a CL press release:

The Board of Directors of Colgate-Palmolive Company today (Oct 11) declared quarterly cash dividends of $.62 per common share, payable on November 15, 2012, to shareholders of record on October 23, 2012. The Company has paid uninterrupted dividends on its common stock since 1895.

Dividend Guy - Good article on CL; you did a complete job of discussing CL which has been a holding of mine for years. You hit the nail on the head when you questioned buying at the current PE ratio. CL rarely goes on sale so when to commit new money is a tough decision. If one is considering purchase it may be prudent to do so before the ex-dividend date of this Wednesday, October 17. The next dividend increase is expected in early March of 2013.

Cross - Do you understand how chaotic your thought processes are? You took a quote and misrepresented the context of it and then after you were corrected you jump to another false, and may I say demonizing, statement. Conversely, I’d like to give you some credit for coming to the conclusion that our government is people too. Too many people say that the government provides a service without recognizing that the 53% of the people that pay taxes allowed that service to be provided. Since I’m paying for it I have every right to question how we are providing that service. Someone who is receiving that service has no right to demand more.

"Corporations are people, my friend". (mitt romney summing up his feelings about what individualism is vs collectivism).”

Cross - I’m getting tired of your BS. This quote comes from an Iowa rally during the primaries and wasn’t framed in any way about individualism vs. collectivism. Furthermore, Romney is basically correct. A corporation is made up of people. Those people make the corporate decisions, and profits from those corporations go to employees, management, and shareholders - to people. Forget about reading Atlas Shrugged for now and start with an economics primer.

Cross - Did you get to page 21 the second time? Like Colin, I didn't think you actually read the book. You'll gain a greater understanding of the issues and form better reasoned opinions if you go beyond the biased news and web sites. Read baby read!

In that we agree he embraces socialism, you’ll have to explain why he can’t also be racist. If you read his books and interviews with friends, co-workers and people from his past you would also see that he has deep-rooted animosity toward whites.

Momentum is certainly on our side. I never believed the polls and thought Romney would win. There are hard core liberals but anyone with an open mind should find Obama’s performance to be completely unsatisfactory. I was suspect of him from the beginning as he had, and unfortunately still doesn’t have any leadership experience or skills.

Biden's debate performance certainly didn't do much for reaching across the aisle for compromise. He gives me the creeps too.

kolpin - Ayn Rand, nor I, never said that some Government regulation wasn’t necessary. What I am saying is that I find Obama’s policies to be socialist, racist and divisive and are leading America in the wrong direction. You must agree that Ryan can accept parts of Ayn Rand’s work and reject others if Obama can embrace parts of Bill Ayers’ teachings but distance himself from the terrorist aspects.

I’m sorry that you set aside this time to humiliate yourself in public.

kolpin - I’m missing your point. Are you suggesting we reject free market capitalism because some conservatives don’t support abortion?
