7 High-Yielding Dividend Buy Calls From Jim Cramer [View article]
I have been a holder of DD since March 09. I have not been adding to my position because of lack of earnings growth visibility. Also unclear on their dividend policy of maintaining a 2-3% yield. Sure wish they would raise their dividend regularly. This stock is lost between growth investors and income investors.
Are Dividend Stocks A Substitute For Bonds? [View article]
Come on - calm down, this is investing not religion or politics. Both sides of this discussion make valid points. I have been a DGI going on 30 years, but also invest in US, International and Emerging Market Index Funds, REITs, MLPs, Corporate Bonds and Emerging Market Bonds. If you limit your investments to only one investment vehicle you are likely making a mistake. If I am a zealot/maniac about investment strategies it would be: (1) diversify your investments with non-correlating assets; (2) utilize passive index investing over active management; (3) consider asset location (taxed or tax deferred) for your investments and (4) it is much easier to profit from dividend growth stocks than more speculative non-dividend stocks. Good luck to everyone!

Of the stocks mentioned I am the most interested in KO. With a dividend increase announcement expected on or about 17 Feb this may be a good opportunity to add to the position. If KO continues to decline to $65 and we get a 10% increase in the dividend the yield would climb to 3.2%. That is a very attractive yield for a great growth and income stock like KO!
The Misplaced Mania Over Dividend-Paying Stocks [View article]
Arnold Landy - Thanks so much for your article dismissing dividend investing strategies. Please continue to post regularly about how misplaced a dividend growth strategy is. If you have any influence with an analyst, please have them speak negatively about it as well. I absolutely loved hearing an analyst on CNBC today talking about how dividend payers are very much overpriced. It was also great when UBS downgraded KO & PEP. I’ll do all I can to buy the dividend growth stocks at a lower price and higher yield. Thanks again!
For approximate dividend announcement dates I go to the company's web page (investor relations) and look at their dividend history. Most companies are consistent in their dividend schedule. I also like to see statements about their commitment to shareholders and dividend growth.

CNP is one of my favorite utilities as they are well positioned with their pipelines and growing population. Look for a dividend increase around 20 Jan!

MO looks even better after today's pullback based on Barron's negative story. One could get rich going the opposite of their advice. Have they ever been right?
I tend to invest in stocks that have higher dividend growth rates higher than the average. The Dividend Champions have a 7.3 mean DGR over the past 10 years. So an 8% DGR is reasonable if you typically choose stocks above the mean.
Dividends4Life - Thanks for your article. It seems that we share a very similar investment strategy and I also establish goals for future dividend income. I am curious as to what assumptions you are making to derive your future income targets. Personally, I assume that the average dividend increase for my portfolio will be 8% and that the dividends will be actively reinvested into stocks yielding an average of 3.5%. These assumptions have been reasonably accurate over the last two years and I expect they will hold in the foreseeable future given that companies will realize that investors are valuing dividends (baby boomer effect). In the past the actual average increase was about 6% with new purchases averaging about 3%. Any thoughts?
Dividend Growth Performance Of America's Largest Companies Yielding At Least 2% [View article]
The desire for yield is prudent, as dividends contribute significantly to total return. I favor companies that have a long history (> 25 years) of raising their dividends. Furthermore, I prefer companies that raise their dividend a relatively consistent amount, reflecting sustainable steady growth. Looking for best of bread I screen for companies that have a Mean Dividend Growth Rate (MDGR) of at least 9% and a MDGR / MDGR Standard Deviation over the preceding 10 years greater than 2. From this screen I create a buy list of companies whose yield is greater than the S&P 500 (>2.5%). The current list follows: PG, JNJ, KO, MDT, SYY, EV, CL, WMT, ADP & ABT. With the exception of EV, I’m presently avoiding financials, all of the companies are reasonable buys as they offer value in today’s market environment.

The better prospects for MRK could be considered new. How about stocks that have consistent DGR around 10% like PG, JNJ, KO, MDT, SYY, CL, WMT & ADP. These are all stocks that are on my shopping list.
