    D4L - Thanks for your detailed analysis of ABT. I have been watching this holding closely as the split into two companies approaches. I added to my position in mid-November, prior to trading on a when issued basis, because I thought it was a fair value at $63.50. Your article highlighted for me the concept of calculating fair value which can vary substantially. Before purchasing a stock it is my habit to consult S&P500 IQ Reports, largely because they are easily available and I have found their approach generally results in a reasonable price. Currently their “sum-of-the-parts analysis indicates inherent worth of about $76" which would be what they consider fair value for ABT and ABBV. Your analysis indicates a fair value of $55.21 which is 19.6% less than the last closing price of $66.05 and 37.7% less than the S&P estimate. Perhaps this considerable disparity is due to the split and how to value the companies on an individual basis. It may also indicate that the individual investor should not place too much weight on a single source estimate of fair value.
