  • Insurers are taking an even more cautious stance on Questcor's (QCOR -4.1%) Acthar, according to a Citron Research report. The short seller is now claiming that Humana (HUM -1.5%) has issued a new Commercial Preauthorization document containing a new, specifically asterisked preauthorization for reimbursement for Acthar, which it contends is part of a pattern of insurers taking a more restrictive stance on authorization policy with regard to the drug's reimbursement. [View news story]

  • Goldman's short call on gold looks prescient, as comex gold sinks $63.50 to settle at $1,501.40/oz. for its lowest close since July 2011. Traders and analysts see no obvious trigger for the selloff, which seems to reflect the malaise that has gripped the market. Silver slips $1.37 to $26.33/oz. Miners are huge losers: HMY -7.5%, ABX -7.3%, AEM -6.9%, AUY -6.2%, SLW -5.6%, NEM -5.2%, EGO -4.9%, GFI -4.8%, GG -4.5%[View news story]

  • Whenever Petrobras (PBR -6.3%) looks ready to turn the corner, the Brazilian government seems to do something to spoil it. This time, the decision to require PBR to participate in the Libra oilfield auction has the stock on its heels. As UBS explains, PBR will have to pay 4.5B reais to Brazil by year's end, and "investors seem afraid of super-regulation/intervention" as PBR needs to commit $100B in capex. [View news story]
And quote "The government expects an upfront payment of at least 15B reais ($7B) from the winner"
This is the problem with Brazil and why investors and Brazilians are angry, this payment goes straight to the pockets of the politicians to keep feeding the corruption!

  • Unemployment Claims Continue To Decline [View article]
BS, I have been unemployed for 2 years, claims are declining because most of the people unemployed at this moment do not qualify for any more benefits, if you are above 50 in order to get back to the workforce you will need to take a 40% pay cut. System is sick!

  • Facebook (FB) is working on a chat room feature called Host Chat, TechCrunch reports. Users can restrict who's allowed to join a chat, and Facebook's news feed will be used to alert "friends" of an ongoing chat. The report comes as Facebook tries to maintain its messaging momentum amidst strong growth for WhatsApp and other mobile messaging rivals, who are often seen as threats to Facebook's mobile engagement rates. WhatsApp recently announced it now has 250M+ monthly active users. Messenger, which is baked into Facebook's core mobile apps, had 56.7M MAUs for its standalone apps as of last November. [View news story]
