Jim Cramer's 3 Strong Buy Recommendations [View article]
If you look over a period of >2 days Cramer isn't that good in his picks. To recommend AAPL is a tad trivial btw. Anyhow, here some calls of him in 2011:
Recommended BTU at >$60 Recommended coal (supercycle) Recommended FFIV at >120 Recommended CMG close to the top. Recommended CHK >30
Obviously he also picked winners. Just saying you must do your own homework and not just follow him.
Republican House Speaker John Boehner says he’s not sure Congress and President Obama can reach a deal to avoid the fiscal cliff. “I’m not confident at all,” Boehner quips. It may just be electioneering by the Republicans to keep the heat on the President going into October, but it's risky banter with a resolution already priced into the markets - like we have right now. [View news story]
I hope the Republicans continue on their path to self destruction. If they continue like this they might even lose the house. The approval rating is at an all time low. I am not against the Republican party, but definitely against the joke the Tea Party made out of them. You can not bend that much to the right without creating a giant hole in the center. Exactly this hole Clinton is grabbing right now.
Once the Republican party wakes up and starts working on agreements that invite compromise, they might actually get somewhere.
I know I will earn a lot of love for this post. ;P
Northwest Biotherapeutics: A Critique Of Adam Feuerstein Of TheStreet's Recent Analysis [View article]
Call him Frankenstein because he assembles his hit pieces using fragments of disinformation. He recently has attacked an author here on SA calling her a "party girl". It seems he doesn't want small biotechs to succeed in anticancer medicines so that the "Feuerstein" rule is not broken. I do have an issue with him. This article constitutes another example for why.
"Despite the popularity of cheap smartphones, this will never be the future of Apple’s (AAPL -0.1%) products," says SVP Phil Schiller in an interview with a Chinese paper. He adds that in "every product that Apple creates, we consider using only the best technology available." The remarks throw cold water on reports of a cheaper iPhone featuring less costly materials, and particularly on a Bloomberg report that Apple is considering retail prices of just $99-$149 for the device. Update: The interview's text has been significantly revised. [View news story]
What a non sense. The operating system alone is better than the Android crap.
House Republicans won't bring their "Plan B" tax-cut proposal to a vote tonight, as Speaker John Boehner says he doesn't have the votes; the House will recess until after Christmas. DJIA futures slip 0.2%. Boehner: "Now it is up to the president to work with Senator Reid on legislation to avert the fiscal cliff." Updated: S&P 500 e-Mini futures dive, limit down. [View news story]
The Republican party is on the way to becoming obsolete. Time for a new party because I see the democrats ruling for a long long time now. If the Republican party thinks majorities can be found at the right wing fringe they can not be helped.
This Gold Slam Is A Massive Wealth Transfer From Our Pockets To The Banks [View article]
I disagree with the author. To think you can protect any asset class buy buying a commodity is a complete illusion as we can see. Much better to put money long term into growth companies that are rapidly growing. I am not quite sure how this all makes the bankers rich.......I think few banks are net short. But anyhow, get used to the concept that anything can be shorted, not just stocks. And manipulation? Just the GS call? That is no manipulation. The truth is Gold bumped into resistance, couldn't break it and - after years and years of a bull - is correcting to a more expected value. There is no hyper inflation anywhere. You could have shorted Gold at 1900. I did not but I also wasn't long as I don't see much value in Gold. Buy Platinum if anything.
The discussion shows one thing: people are posting again as bears who were so dead wrong after May/June that they stopped. Now that things are going down they are back full force. Time to buy.
Bundesbank President Jens Weidmann has recently discussed with other senior officials at the bank the possibility of resigning, due to his opposition to Mario Draghi's plans for the ECB to resume the buying of eurozone government debt, Germany's Bildreports. However, unlike his predecessor Axel Weber, Weidmann has stayed so that he can fight the program from within. [View news story]
I beg to differ - Weidmann treats the Euro as if were the D-Mark. That is not possible due to the spread in interest rates on bonds. Only a better fiscal integration can help and in the short term fighting the spread. Weidmann comes years too late - he should have prevented the Euro-zone.
I am really laughing.....AAPL? Why don't you short it. I am long AAPL and will stay long. The China growth alone will drive it up. But ok, we are all entitled to have an opinion - to me this looks more like a shopping list.
So you really suggest I have to visit all companies I own stock in. I can not believe such a statement - it is completely ludicrous.
To the article - Anyone who knows Chinese people doesn't buy this article. Usually they work pretty hard and I am sure the CCME people too. Look at their website - who made that? The videos of the commercials and the Sitow site are pretty good too - much better than above "report". Journalism has more and more degenerated into fiction. This is not to say that I like the reactions of the CCME management though. I am a bit concerned about the lack of any info as to the reason for the T1. Someone has to say something I would assume and that makes me feel pretty bad. If they do not release news tomorrow before Monday market, I am pretty sure it is really bad news which wouldn't be good for me personally as I got stuck with some of the stocks in day trading. I wasn't planning holding them over night even. But shit happens I guess when one wants to make a quick buck on the way up. And I am sure it would have gone back up. The level of speculation on the stock is incredible and I am sure that most longs have averaged down to like 12 bucks by now.
To the insider trading: in the last 9 months there was no trading by people from within the company really. Doesn't support fraud I feel.
Ah, and the money in the accounts must come from somewhere. So, where is it coming from? CCME a giant washing machine and they put that thing on NASDAQ? Questionable.
Apple Inc. (AAPL) declares dividend of $2.65/share, in line with previous. Forward yield 2.06%. For shareholders of record Feb. 11. Payable Feb. 14. Ex-div date Feb. 07. Shares -10.8% AH. (PR) [View news story]
They really really could have increased that dividend to $5.

Shares of refiners are taking a beating today, apparently on fears of increased costs from proposed tougher standards on gasoline. The EPA is proposing the so-called Tier 3 rules that will require refiners to reduce the sulfur content of gasoline to 10 parts per million by 2017 from 30 ppm. VLO -6.2%, TSO -3.5%, MPC -4.3%, ALJ -4.5%, PSX -3.1%, HFC -3.2%, WNR -4.8%, NTI -5.5%. [View news story]
This change is for 2017! BUY! Completely emotional reaction like the RIN recently. Many refiners will be able to do 10 ppm with current equipment.
Peregrine Pharmaceuticals' Bavituximab: It's Time To Throw In The Towel [View article]
Pretty fast there rejecting the NSC lung cancer phase II trial reported recently as failed. While I agree that strictly spoken there is a about 20% chance the results were co-incidental, the combination of the docetaxel (dox) and dox+1 mg Bavi into control probably reduced statistical significance. There was a mess up as you know and I am surprised they could salvage anything. I would like to see a calculated ES to judge this a bit better. Are the individual numbers somewhere available for statistical analysis? Interested in control MOS + SD and Bavi 3 mg MOS + SD.
Another one: many phase II trials are statistically based on low numbers. I think that might have ethical reasons too. Has the author thought about ethics when criticizing the company? Isn't it better to figure if there at least is a trend in a phase II before giving something that doesn't work to many patients? Many phase II trials are NOT designed to establish statistically significant differences in MOS.
When shooting sharp, please remember that those patients in the trial are basically doomed. Their live expectancy is very short, their prognosis poor. Those used in such clinical trials are probably too far in the disease to be helped in a meaningful way by chemo therapy. I would like to see many of these cancer medications in more healthy, earlier patient groups to really be able to judge them. A seat belt probably becomes very insignificant in a train wreck, but still could save lives in a car accident.
