  • Salesforce.com: Putting Lipstick on a Pig [View article]
What do Salesforcers make or do? They contribute nothing to the real ecomomy! It seems to me that they have just bought old file-sharing software and use it in the field of marketing. And it feels intrusive btw.

To foil their tracking of your habits, I advise you go to a random website once in a while. Also, buy some random thing that you usually would not.

Heh heh heh. (Sorry, anarchist urges.)

The <Reuters quote/> shows that this European company does divs annually, and there is a long time in awarding it. Hard to track correctly?

    'Tuesday, 17 May 2011 02:26pm EDT

Veolia Environnement announced that the Company has approved dividend for the fiscal year 2010 of EUR1.21 per share. The dividend for the 2010 fiscal year shall be paid to holders as at the close of business on May 20, 2011, and payment will begin on June 17, 2011.'

Thanks! Actually I had had XPH for a while. Used LIFO to raise cash with it well before its current (June 2011) difficulties. Modest gain.

Personal holdings for A.K. are informed by components of the main 4 ETFs, and in that fashion considered to be fairly well diversified (except not at all in the drugs at the moment)

    Take care out there!

  • LinkedIn's Valuation Is Unjustifiable [View article]
It seemed to this humble observer that the advertising world is bubble-prone and at the mercy of changes. However, they seem to hire the best press flacks in-house for free. And they hype like mad!

I have to confess that I don't exactly know what these (box) twitter (box) facebook (box) linkedin buttons lead to at the bottom of the text entry panel. Must assume it is advertising.

Anyway, re-reading WPP's 2009 report shows that things are not always what they seem. The "fluff" for the real economy is the "solid booked profit" on the report of the SG&A creator. Sir Sorrell's company also explained sneakily that WPP itself has "goodwill" even though it manages others' intangibles. There's just no solid price to put upon the human-to-human sort of networking.

I'll agree with pro-LinkedIn boosters that it has "incalculable" value in it. Just define the value in a mass-agreement (like many other things)

"At first glance, one would think that beta is not a very useful concept to use.."

    Totally agree!

    Oh, there's more? :-)

Thanks for the Staffmark news! I like to distinguish between "services" and "stuff" for purposes of added diversification. We'll be watching the balance CODI has between these in future.

Thanks, I kind of thought you were identifying that sort of imaginary valuation that they do so much of out there!

I still find it hard to recognize "...is decoupled from the market." Obviously not really, as it's being TRADED. This has to mean something else, possibly with an 'expectations', or 'leading-not-following' kind of disclaimer.

But still, whew, that silver price, eh?

  • Why Congress Won't Cut the Deficit [View article]
Sometimes one thinks that the soft and squishy sciences - economics and political - draw in the least rational people. Just simpletons who know how to convince via rhetoric.

Pragmatism (in the sense of being always ready to learn) should be drilled into decision makers.

Kick out anybody who is absolute about truth - you can't experiment in the soft and squishy sciences!

I've recently thought that realtors should be forced to pay back out of profits from all the badly-estimated values they did. Such "work" to label properties...

Breezed over the CEF prospectus, it seemed at the time that they were very aware of this ratio. Almost certain that they take good advantage by rebalancing gold vs silver. (So they do it for you?)

Yes I hate to be confused too. A.K. thinks that Energy Departments all around the world should work to equalize things so power is power, all else is just details.

(Might help motivate a smart grid and kill OPEC price-fixing)

  • Why Silver Is Likely to Correct at 20% [View article]
It's not really an argument based on supply and demand, is it?
"Based on the past, and this algebra I know, therefore the price is just like a spring under tension".
That's what it boils down to, and A.K. just sees no real logic to the guess about materials and their prices in certain currencies.

Holdings value $16,571. Not much change? I have to wonder if dividend's are just ignored or put into a CASH item. Little change from Feb. Checking...

Yahoo finds no sign of Interest or Div transactions. I guess I should have done that myself? Might as well just - from now on we'll track the ETF performance. Relative to a beginning in April 2009.

(Over at The Motley Fool they allow for dividend re-investment some.)
