Matt is an independent trader trading his own capital. Matt holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and currently resides in Chicago, IL. In 2005 Matt developed an interest in the financial markets and began reading as many books on trading as possible from top authors including Steve Nison, John J. Murphy, Mark Douglas, Brett Steenbarger and others. At the same time he began trading part time with a small retail account. Matt enjoyed several small successes, including buying the Financial SPDR ETF at the bottom of the 2008 market crash on March 6, 2009 and later selling for a 90% return. In 2010 Matt began actively managing a portfolio heavily weighted to hedge against devaluation of the US dollar due to government policy and corresponding rise in gold and silver prices as a result of those policies. He now actively manages this portfolio and provides full visibility of the portfolio on his blog www.mattjohnsontrading.com as an online trading journal with daily profit/loss updates and market commentary.
