  • Apple May End Mobile Phone Contract Era [View article]
This idea is great...but some of the comments are dead on. I really wish this would happen - and yes, I do in fact buy the non subsidized phones to not be tied to a particular carrier. I do this because AT&T and Verizon both change their pricing and their services at will. A "contract" in terms of mobile phones means "The consumer will do what we say, but we have zero obligation to adhere to the agreement – and they will continue to take it up the a** for two years or pay us $175!" Case in point - unlimited data. AT&T killed it on U-Verse (I know, not a mobile phone), AT&T and Verizon both killed it even on grandfathered contracts by rate limiting beyond a certain point. So yes, this SHOULD happen...but I doubt it will. As another person mentioned, there is no chipset that will support the various freq's and protocols yet. That alone is a deal breaker. Then as many mentioned, consumers are not willing or able to pay the full price in most cases.

If Apple, Google and Microsoft formed some sort of alliance for this purpose they could make it happen. Beyond that, only direct government intervention (something I am NOT a fan of) could bring this to fruition.

Last I checked Atlanta was not the "sticks" and I pay more like $3,600 for 24-months of service (AT&T unlimited data -grandfathered, unlimited messaging and like 1,200 minute plan) and that is with a 19% discount through my company.

  • China MediaExpress Holdings: All Eyes on Deloitte [View article]
First, I concur with your premise regarding Deloitte. If fraud was anywhere near as wide spread - or in fact anything bigger than a stolen pack of post-it notes - Deloitte would have resigned by now. This is simply not the case, as I mentioned in my blog here on SA.

As far as Ian's comment above goes, he apparently did not read anything else regarding the GH report. GH absolutely stands behind it - they also charge their clients money to read their reports and asked many sites to please remove the copies of it. It is still available through them but at a different URL. Feel free to subscribe to their reports if you feel this to not be the case.

  • Predicting China's Next 'Skyrocket Stock' [View article]
    Rick,

I respect that you are on the ground in China and well acquainted with these various companies. However, you recently brought to light the fact that you feel a Deloitte audit sign off on CCME would not in any way vindicate them of fraud. To use your reasoning, there is no way to show that a China Small Cap is not guilty of fraud. Since it would be impossible to maintain this viewpoint in a vacuum you must feel the same way about all CSC stocks. Please help my understand how we as readers are to accept any of your recommendations on face value as you clearly have different standards applied to similar companies (size, geo location, structure wise). How, for example, and I to accept that your Skypeople drink makers are not complete frauds? I am not suggesting they are - but based on your CCME argument there is no way to know that. In fact, one is expected, based on your statements, to assume that they are all frauds. I am at a bit of a loss since your two trains of thought are in fact mutually exclusive - and one would seem to negate your entire career choice. Please help me understand.
