  • China: Not Quite the End of the Massive Stimulus [View article]
It seems quite likely that Geithner bilateralism aside, China mercantilism will continue to thrive, just in different continents & sub-continents--stating the obvious, greater Asia + sub-equatorial.

  • Turning Nothing Into Something [View article]
heidegger/the activity of relating man and being as appropriated to each other is more fundamental than what is related. the future is the withholding and past the refusal of presence. Time, as granting and yielding presence in reciprocal relationship, is not linear but dimensional and describes occurrence without reference to the thing occurring, incorporating "room" for man and being to be appropriated to each other. Time is not appropriation but the way in which appropriation appropriates...cf. Washington Post Dec 29-31 08 3-part feature (plus sidebars), bob woodward, ed., on the activities of clinton's and goldman's rubin et al., Ms Brooks you Go Girl! according to which no it aint the gubmnt nor the wallstreet weezuls only, & definitely yes it includes summathe smartest guys in the room, prodigiously activating their appropriations...highl... recommended reading! happy new year@!

works! any chance US could back out of butting in all over the muslim world, save some bucks/lives(/reputatio... etc.)? instead the verdict is Iraq is a 'solved problem' ((!?) that"ll save no earn US $ any day now, so time to beef up invasion of Afghanistan! oh I mean Pakistan! India? Sri Lanka? now US has a South Asia policy/national interest???!!! uh....recall Russia in Afghanistan?
Better: follow China model=>US security at & within its borders is the only if not proper then achievable response to 9/11. Then export the security tech-knowhow to e.g. Pakistan et al.

  • When Central Bankers Clash, Stock Markets Can Crash  [View article]
Fabulous article. Re China, my understanding is raw materials, especially oil, remain significantly subsidized even after recent price hike. Point being, wild and wooly as US economy is now, is China's in so much better shape? Triangulating, might it benefit from author's two-worlds-collide event? pls to further inform

  • Far from Dead: The Case for 3 Newspaper Stocks [View article]
My hometown paper the San Jose Mercury News is privately held by MediaNews Group, and it is a great paper. I made $ going in and out of the Zell takeover, and I'm ashamed I did it. the LA Times is(/was?) a great paper. As for Newscorp goal to 'increase govt-politics coverage' @#$#$@^%%^&*^*= be v v afraid...The only news I pay for is the Merc (delivered); I enjoy NYT and WPost free online. Point being? I'm no expert. Apparently a) an American style stockmarket can annihilate a lot of industries and b) American style democracy depends on a free press (re the potential c)'s to this dangling syllogism, whatever...). I'll never buy a newspaper stock again.

  • Financial Entertainment TV Buries Itself with Disinformation [View article]
I would love to believe that Big Media disinformation is or will soon be dead & buried, yet look whom it serves--not so different from BS!? Fox Murdoch; WSJ oh right Murdoch; Bloomfield? poor pathetic cnbc etc...follow the money! Notwithstanding, my portfolio's rather a train wreck right now (commodity heavy). And yes, life's not really about the money. Happy Easter to you too, Mr. C. God bless us all.

  • 4 Recommendations to Defend Against a Financial Armageddon [View article]
I had my English students in Shanghai read and write about F Scott Fitzgerald's "Babylon Revisited", in May 2007, commenting that I thought something like it [1929] could happen again. Most scoffed, as China's market was in the stratosphere then. One student told me privately that patriotic Chinese had been encouraged to invest in their stock market, so he had put in 1000 yuan, his allowance for half a year. He lost it all...The above comments notwithstanding, dare I say, I hate it when I'm right! Thank you, Mr. Cara, for your practical suggestions. I own FXF & will look into Swiss banks.
