  • BlackBerry (BBRY +0.6%) is talking with rival OEMs about having BlackBerry Messenger pre-installed on their phones, says COO Kristian Tear; the remarks come a month after BlackBerry announced iOS/Android versions of BBM would arrive this summer, exciting some investors and stoking fears among others of less hardware differentiation. BBM claims a base of 61M active users (many of them in emerging markets), with 70% of them using it daily. The iOS/Android apps will face competition from WhatsApp (200M+ users and #2 in Google Play free download rankings), Skype (#3), and Facebook Messenger (#4), among others. [View news story]

  • BlackBerry's (BBRY +1.3%) next touch-only flagship BB10 phone will be called the A10, launch in November, and be sold by Sprint, CNET reports, while providing scant details about its specs. Following the launch, the touch-only Z10 and QWERTY-sporting Q10 will reportedly be sold as mid-range devices (is a Q10 successor also on tap?). AllThingsD reported in March Sprint will sell a Z10 successor in 2H. [View news story]
All consistent with the CEO's statement a while ago as to the number of products to be released thus year. if the Q10 is indeed mid-range..then the wow factor is certainly there. The Shorts won't be able to stop this now...long on BlackBerry!

  • BlackBerry's Strategy Is The Best One To Retrieve Its Past Glory [View article]
Yongzhou and Smithmaestro- are you short and or working for those who are ? You are dead wrong and ill informed- the Q10 and Z10 are both successes and in June we will ear 1st 1qtr results that all the shorted hedge fund threats cannot stop. The SEC and Canadian authorities are now looking into intentional manipulation and fraud and chances are, you will be subpoenaed or even indicted- be careful and consult with Counsel before spreading any more unsupported nonsense for only one reason-

I am long on BBY and dumped my Galaxy III for a Z10- \never looked back! Very happy- does what I want- and doesn't spy on me- The Short I believe in is tolerance for the Manipulators and Hedge Funds that threaten analysts as reported here in another article today. ( http://seekingalpha.co... )

The SEC needs to get involved and heads need to roll.

  • But, But BlackBerry Was Dead [View article]
He is correct- at least 2 analysts have conferred Canadian Market share- the Q10 is estimated to sell 3 x to 1 over the Z10- so that could be huge-

Also lots of other Corps have announced BES support. I too switched form a Galaxy III to the Z10 and ma very happy with it- and I have loaded the 10.1 leak- which is also terrific. Very soon the manipulative reports will end, the shorts will be squeezed, and this stock will be where is should be -

  • BlackBerry: Focus On The Long Term [View article]
Let's not forget attempts at manipulation with "bad news" postings! With so much stock shorted someone and some firms stand to lose a lot of BIG money! It would appear that its worth the risk of SEC Fines (since our Justice Dept. won't indict anyone) to save a fortune or , at least, reduce the loss.

I too am long on this a\and have been for some time. When the Q1 0is released in the US, it should be well received and purchased. Now Blackberry is getting ready to release less expensive models akin to the Curve line- also successful

But more importantly, a lot of users,\will give up their Galaxy III's for a true business user Phone with an O/S and manufacturer that doesn't rack you in order to sell information to advertisers! I don't watch movies on a 4" screen and I don't paly games either- I need a business phone. I doubt I am alone !

  • Some Thoughts About BlackBerry [View article]
Chippy55 is absolutely correct- with that number of shares shorted- there is some BIG money from some BIG people that will be lost ... it's worth the risk and Fines of being caught for Manipulation to reduce the losses.. look what happened to the stock today after to strong sales in England! The pundits and "analysts" just want to hear themselves talk- there is more expertise on this site than on CNBC!

Never the less- the 10s are great- I switched back form a Galaxy- and 77mm users don't disappear overnight-

I am VERY LONG and will remain so!

  • Some Thoughts About BlackBerry [View article]
Another reason for possible manipulation is simply do to the fact that lot of very powerful CO;s and their clients stand to lose a fortune if Blackberry Stock doesn't fall below Shorted prices- after all, 157mm share of shorted stock represents BIG BUCKS. That may in and of itself be worth the risk of the consequences of being "caught" and accused of manipulation.

  • BlackBerry (BBRY -6.9%) plummets as the WSJ reports AT&T (T) "doesn't appear to be highlighting" the Z10 on its launch day, or "giving it prominent shelf space at its stores." The paper observes "fewer than 20 people" arrived at two Manhattan AT&T stores to see the Z10, and that a San Francisco store chose to display it "at a back corner of the store, away from a large sign advertising the iPhone 5." (earlier[View news story]
The WSJ is again way out of touch for reasons only they know. From one of the forums today- and most comments I am seeing are similar- not doubt with the amount of stock shorting, someone stands to gain if they "fail" in the sort run:

"Ok people here's the deal. Unlike the Wall Street Journal and this guy, I actually did my homework. I called 50 AT&T stores in random zip codes as well as 10 from major zip codes like Boston, NYC etc. In all honesty the responses I received were mixed. Some stores had about 10 phones in stock and only sold a couple so far. Some stores had several hundred phones in stock and sold 300+ today. Some stores were even sold out. Bottom line is that this stock trades on news and the news got it wrong - the phone is a hit. No it's not selling out like the iPhone, but then again BBRY isn't trading at a market cap of $450 billion either. I have never been more excited for a stock that I own to go down before. I just increased my position by 1000 shares. This is stupid easy money. Good luck to anyone that is short. Disclosure: I am long AAPL and BBRY."
