  • Why Seadrill Is Not A Falling Knife [View article]
Oil is a commodity. Commodity prices depend upon supply and demand. Every thing I own in oil and gas has been falling recently. Granted Seadrill has really tumbled, but its fundamentals are good. Wait until February. If SDRL has not begun to recover by then, I will get nervous. Otherwise . . .

The article may have sucked, but some of the comments are priceless. It warms my heart to see evidence that not everyone is a mindless lefty.

  • Galena Biopharma: Direct Answers From The CEO Crystallize The Strong Potential For Shareholders [View article]
Phase I and Phase II trials are necessary hurdles in drug development, but rarely point to successful registration. The completion of Phase III trials with a significant advantage to the patient over existing therapies is what counts. A successful NDA is the next hurdle. Drug company executives routinely hype anything that the company gets into clinical trial, but all too many candidates fail in Phase III. It is a sad fact of drug development.

I doubt that there is enough gold in the whole world to have any impact on the global economy. So how would the accumulation of gold help an individual when that economy collapses?

  • American Capital Agency's Dividend Cut Is Good News For mREIT Investors [View article]
Thanks for this sober and considered article. I have taken a sizable hit on my MREIT holdings, much of which I consider due to Market overreaction to the Fed. My MREITS seem oversold right now, and I await a reversion with bated breath.

  • Alliance Resource Partners Keeps On Distributing More [View article]
Thanks for your article. I've been biting my nails over ARLP all fall. It makes up almost 10% of my portfolio, at an average price of 61.7. So, I hope the price stays stable at least, though fundamentally, the stock seems undervalued.

  • Retirees Beware Of The Many Dangers Of Holding Overvalued Stocks [View article]
Chuck, The starting year (data set) used can greatly effect the FastGraphs picture. With Starbucks, try 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 years in sequence. With graphs at 4 and to some extent 5 yrs., Starbucks looks fairly valued. With graphs at 6, 3 and 2 yrs. Starbucks looks wildly over-priced. So, which gives the most useful valuation, the big picture or the present day snapshot? As you have so often said, FastGraphs are a good starting point, but one must take many other things into consideration. I appreciate and use FastGraphs very frequently. Thanks, Ken

  • High-Yield Buys: There Is A Lot Of Value In This Market: Part 3 [View article]
I note the very high debt ratio of LO. That is not a characteristic common to MO, PM or RAI. Is that not a red flag for LO?

Thanks for your excellent article. Was long PNNT. Thinking of getting back in. Have you compared the two, because I hold no brief for PNNT and could just as easily buy PSEC. Thanks.

  • Why American Capital Agency Is A Better Buy Than Annaly Capital [View article]
I agree that we should be respectful of each other. Way too many commentators (and sometimes authors) are abusive.
Though, I would say that there are probably many individual investors retired to Florida who could give points to Mr. Terry, an individual, and still come out ahead. Just wish that I were one of them. Retired to FL and an avid follower of SA authors.
    Respectfully, Ken Pittman
