  • 11 Attractive Canadian Dividend Growth Stocks To Buy Now [View article]
    Chuck, I believe Fastgraphs uses FFO instead of adjusted earnings; is it possible for the software to use AFFO, which seems like a more accurate number from the discussion you had with Underhill and SG.

    Thanks

  • Assessing The Recent Stock Market Damage [View article]
    SOUTHGENT;
    I wanted to get your thoughts on what you said==="My forecast is that the FED will end QE by the end of this year (no later than the 2015 first quarter) and will start to raise the FF rate by mid-2015, with a FF rate at .5% by year end 2015. "=====

    I wanted to know what you thought would happen indirectly to long rates when FF goes to.50, that is, what happens to not only longer rates but to competition for yield from equity reits and preferred stocks and even dividend champs.

    Do you think by early 2015 one may see a fall in these areas?

    thanks
    SG

    I know that you view equity reits as "different" from common stocks; it appears that they have been the recipient of positive rotation so far during this correction; do you think they will be hit if a true 15- 20% correction plays out.

    thanks

  • The Most Important Article I Could Ever Write On Dividend Growth [View article]
    You wrote
    "In my dividend growth strategy, I prefer a payout ratio less than 50%, a starting yield greater than 3% which requires patience at times, and a historic percentage growth rate in earnings roughly equal, give or take a few percent, with the percentage increases in dividends. In other words, I like to see the payout ratio remain roughly the same."

    can you tell me where this info is available or do you have to calculate it?

    thanks

    Thanks much;I was confused about the taxation issue also; in this etf are there foreign taxes or is it considered just all coming from the etf itself?? if there are foreign taxes, I am confused about where the best place to buy an etf , IE, taxed deferred account vs regular.

    thanks again

    BOB< I looked on the vanguard website and i am confused by the distrubution data on VEA; it looks like this fund paid only 3 times last year and twice this year.

    They paid
    mar 2012= .011
    sept 2012= .689
    dec 2012 = .346
    mar 2013 =.161
    june 2013= .545

    I am not sure if this is all that was distributed, but it looks like closer to a 3% yield. maybe you could tell me what i am missing .
    thanks

  • What Is Wrong With Microsoft? [View article]
    In light of the MSFT quarter, with lots of people calling for the end of management"s tenure, have you changed any of your thinking on the value and future of MSFT? Certainly the server part of the business along with Xbox looks ok; the foray into the non desktop world looks like a continuing problem. And even the desktop Windows portion is slowing.

    I saw a little piece on yahoo Finance where Jeff Macke ( one of the hosts) says that MSFT price of @ 36 will never be seen again.

    I was wondering what is you worst case scenario for this company.

    PS, Like you I am a long term owner.

    thanks

  • You Should Own The 4 Horsemen Of Southern Utilities [View article]
    Thanks for all your great articles. I had a question re exc; given all the metrics of Roic, dividend dependability, non A- credit rating, why it is in your portfolio?

    Also I see you have previously owned D. But not now , is this based on price ? Thanks in advance.

    PS, I enjoy your creative thinking!!

    Thanks in advance for your great and thought provoking articles;

    I was wondering about the difference in your two articles concerning foreign etfs;
    Can you give your reasoning about using IDV/VPL in the more dividend oriented portfolio versus PID for younger investors? Also, your percentage of investments ; how did you decide on the weighting of these funds?

    And in general how did you come to the rating percentage of the investments ; for example, what is your thinking to have the utility etf at 5 % say versus 10% for more income oriented investors?

    thanks

    thanks for your answer. Do you you have any thoughts on the leveraged ETNs for dividends? If one is buying for yield then do you think this dampens the risk as one may never sell?

    Also it looks like they are taxed as income? I am not sure.

    thanks for all your help and this very interesting article!!

    Can you tell me how these Etfs are taxed in a regular account? Won't that influence what you own?
