  • Titan International (TWI) CEO Maurice Taylor shows little patience for left-wing French politicians and labor officials stammering over the loss of jobs at tire plants in the nation. The exec says the French workforce only puts in a three-hour workday and he would be "stupid" to take over factories there. Taylor unplugged: "Titan is going to buy a Chinese tire company or an Indian one, pay less than one Euro per hour wage and ship all the tires France needs." [View news story]
I think it has less to do with the culture but more to do with the existence of union. I have several French colleague and they are the most hardworking bunch among colleague of other nationalities (Chinese, Spanish, English, Greek, Indian, etc).

I respect the necessity for existence of labour union in a society but most of the time union is just a blood-sucking vampire which sucks out the vigour of a company just to justify their existence because they do not produce anything. In short, they are politicians, and you know what happen when you let politician get involve in managing a for-profit corporation (or anything, really).
