  • Citigroup (C) has a credit card business worth $60B by itself, yet the entire bank is valued at $97B, says former Morgan Stanley CEO Phil Purcell (who spun off Discover during his reign), again making the case for breaking up the big banks. If banks are going to trade at half of book, but have business lines that would fetch 2-3X book, it's a no-brainer. "The shareholder is getting cheated." [View news story]
yah! Phil put the "stocks and socks" deal together for Sears when he was advising Sears CEO, Ed Brennan. The Dean Witter/Sears fit gave Purcell religion. Only when he dismanteled the Sears conglomorate did the shareholders make money and I might add..,they did well! So...., maybe, Phil knows what he's talking about...

  • Is The Outlook For YPF Growing More Positive? (Part 1) [View article]
CV: I'm puzzeled? Why are you wasting your time on YPF? As we discussed earlier last week, YPF is "dinero muerto" to the common shareholder. You mention in the last paragraph of your article "that the future outlook is certainlymore positive than after nationalization" Pregunta? More positive for whom? Must be the citizens of Argentina? I cannot imagine in my wildest dreams any benefit to the common shareholder of YPF. CKF has no reason(or ability) to pay a dividend for years!!! I too..., shall be on"pins and needles" awaiting Your next article to understand where you're going with this thesis....? Hasta Luego, BAX

  • DHT Holdings Will Survive The Tanker Market [View article]
i agree with Aschroed! Anybody that's been in the Tanker stocks for the past 3 years has witnessed"falling knives" If you need secure dividends buy some Telco's or REIT's. I do own a modest position in NM, 'think it's one of the better managed freighter companies. BAX

  • The Conundrum Of Triple Net Lease Valuation [View article]
Hi Brad: Good article! It's a book of information; you've increased my wisdom of R.E. Finance considerably. Question..., have you ever looked at the REIT Excel(EXL)? EXL is new to the scene, but has old experienced management. Gary Sabin is the CEO and he's been "winner" for many years plus he's been buying EXL stock on the open market with his own private capital. I like it.."when the chef eats in his own kitchen" Thanks again for a very informative article. BAX

  • Banco Santander Brasil: Declining Asset Quality And Growing Headwinds Hamper Profitability [View article]
Hola CV: As usual, ' well researched thesis on BSBR. I have a question. Earlier in your Q & A above, you said that you like BBVA and their Argentine Bank. I'm puzzeled? I'm assuming the Argentine Bank you're referring to is BFR. Isn't BFR now under Christina Kircheners watchful eye..., meaning no more generous dividends and state mandated low interest loans? Also, I too would welcome your research on Brazilian Utility companies. I recently purchased EBR and also have owned CIG for many years. BAX
