Epic Changes Coming for Electric Power, Transportation and Energy Storage [View article]
In my opinion, based on commentary from several sources,THE GRID is the weak link. Seems to be maxed out and subject to collapse with a black swan event ,and will require more ,higher capacity conductors, wider ROW,better switches, and so on.Lots of Dollars. Option could be to change the mind set from a few Large Plants to many smaller Plants, located near existing sub-stations ,to take advantage of new technology ,some as described here. Cost could be off set by not needing to upgrade multi thousands of miles of high voltage lines and attendant costs. Just saying.

Green is not new. It was one called "life cycle design",and Owners and engineers would make decisions on HVAC,glazing, and insulation ,which affected first cost and operational cost. Better quality and higher first cost for a higher net net rent, for a lower operational cost, mostly utility and maintenance. Lower quality and lower first cost for a lower net net rent over a smaller rent-able area. ,and a predictably higher operational cost. As in most areas, trade off decisions must be made. What is old is new again.
Is America Falling Asleep at the Switch With Uranium? [View article]
I believe Oak Ridge National Lab has developed a smaller, safer , nuclear power BOX, as well as a company ,Hyperion, which utilizes spent rods for fuel. This precludes the necessity for immediate storage at Yucca mtn,and results in a lower grade rod in 20 years which would be easier to store. These small units are truck transportable, safe ,scale-able, and could be deployed quickly . IMO a possible solution.

In the 1950s ,my father ran a sawmill with a propane/gasoline power unit. I looked into Nat gas for SUV's.The conversion kits are relatively expensive for injected engines, and the certified high pressure tanks are absurdly costly. Cummins is joint venturing to develop a CNG engine. The fuss I do not understand, since a straight conversion should be easy, and a good application in big trucks. The last I read about algae is they are working on a vertical substrate ,but still having production problems. Scaleability should be good when the more mundane "working pilot"is successful. Rare earth metals and a good battery are the limiting factors for wind and cars. We best get to drilling wherever we can.The politicos in charge when we revisit 1973 again, this time for real, are history!
In my opinion, this is smoke and mirrors just to unleash the lobby($$) on the WH.They want big banks, cause they are easier to manipulate and control than lots of small banks.Big banks can be coerced into taking more of the Fannie and Freddie toxic loans, which are coming. It's all about perception, control and plausible deniability.

I like simple tracking. The government eliminated redlining, and demanded loans be made to marginal borrowers. Not many mortgages would be made , absent a secondary market which also set the criteria for making the mortgage, which would be considered marginal . If marginal mortgages are not made, they cannot be bundled , "sliced and diced" requiring "insurance" which is not good, and rating agencies that don't do their due diligence. FLIP THIS HOUSE on cable doesn't exist and the market doesn't tank, FOR THIS REASON. Look at Congress,Fannie and Freddie.

I am not sure the point of the article, either. In general , planners and planning have been behind the curve, and hiking without a compass, thus walking a long circular route and returning to the 1950's, albeit with more local government control. Folks making decisions without skin in the game.
PG&E Wants DOE Dollars for Underground Air Energy Storage [View article]
Lets see here boys. California is not allowing drilling for oil or gas. Soon, refiners will be history and huge gas and petroleum pipelines will be idle. Rent the pipe lines and fill them with air. A permit to build anything will take years anyway. Saves a lot of CO2 pollution. (I hope you see the humor in this)

So, you are one of the people who propose and craft all the CRAP coming out of DC and local zoning and utility boards, which deprive us of our freedoms and our wealth. Do you sleep well?
I can say there is a LOT of interest in Cars, and even more opinions. The 1st chapter of the play is not even written, and opinions abound about winners. My opinion is that the real winner is probably just an idea in someones mind, and will eventually come to the fore.In the meantime I am driving my gas guzzling ,paid for GMC trucks, until I can find a used diesel V W at a value price. There is too much research ongoing for what I see now to be the end game.
When new lots are developed in the future the minimum cost for builders will be based on developed land costs. Then the true costs of the some absurd environmental regulations and government fees will come to light.Smaller, more efficient ,homes will be affected. I have been watching zoning regulations for 40 years, and its all about control and $.They are mostly fighting the last battle's unintended consequences, and are mostly late and behind developers, who have actual skin in the game. When the present approved supply is gone ,the next batch will just cost more.

Don't you just love tunnel vision? The science is far from settled,we can drill here and keep our assets here, we can easily change to nat gas for big trucks and boilers,we will change to alt energy when it is naturally economical. Have a nice day.
