You'll never see me write a long bio listing all of my credentials and degrees or refer to myself in the third person. I love discussing ideas and I appreciate it when people can play devil's advocate without resorting to personal attacks. In short, I employ a long-only, long-horizon, focused value style, guided by thorough bottom-up research and backed by years of accounting and finance experience. When people ask me "what do you do?" I assume they mean for fun.
Emerging markets private equity and venture capital investor. Have participated in over 35 transactions. MBA from IESE. CAIA and CFA Charterholder. Investing in public equities for my own account.
Because I'm an accountant, I enjoy analyzing company financials. I'm also agnostic to prices going up or down. Either is fine, so long as I'm the correct side. :)
I have over 17 years experience in the hedge fund industry working as a Portfolio Manager, Domestic Equity Analyst and Trader. I was the Portfolio Manager of a domestic Hedged Equity product with gross assets that peaked over 1 Billion dollars, and I have over 18 years experience generating both long and short ideas in domestic equities. I am a fundamental, bottoms up, value investor in long investments, and catalyst oriented short investor. I like to employ technical analysis as a balance to my fundamental work, and also as a risk management characteristic to my overall investment philosophy. I am currently investing my own capital in a similar manner I employed while working in the hedge fund industry.

In the early 1990s, during the middle of a secular bull market, I began work on "A Modern Approach To Graham and Dodd Investing," that was not particularly suited for the decade of the 1990s, but was ideally suited for the following "Lost Decade" of the 2000s.
I am an activist investor in US and Chinese stocks. I was previously an investment banker in New York Hong Kong and London for 9 years, focused on Equity Capital Markets. I look at both long ideas and short ideas and typically focus on a small number on names where I can spend the time to conduct very deep research. I spend my time living between Los Angeles and Beijing, China.
The stock market is an incredibly interesting and dynamic puzzle that continues to draw me in like a game of chess where every few moves your opponent changes and parts of the board are obscured.
The investment models I design are typically used by family offices, hedge funds, brokerages and single investors. If you are interested in developing a certain model and want to throw a few ideas around, you are most welcome to contact me without feeling pressure or obligation.
My other passion is volunteering with the deaf. My wife and I moved to Malawi Africa from 2014 to 2016 where we learned Malawi Sign Language.
I am a fixed income a.k.a. bond analyst residing in the bayous of Louisiana. At my day job I am focused on the corporate, municipal, mortgage, and treasury markets.
As for stocks, I particularly like dividend growth companies and small cap growth companies that are trading at a reasonable price.
I want to share my passion for finance, investments, and the markets with anyone who cares to read! Join me on the hunt for alpha by clicking that follow button. I would be grateful to have you as a reader!

Retired small-cap growth stock and long/short hedge fund manager. As I still actively manage my own portfolio (pretty much in line with how I managed my long/short hedge fund) and also actively follow global economic trends, there will be investment related topics that I feel are interesting to write about in my Seeking Alpha articles.
As for my other writing activities, I've also had a really interesting career in the investment management industry (going back to the 1980s) and so I've completed the first volume (Atlas Stumbled: Prologue) of what was originally planned to be a four volume set of books about the very many interesting and "larger than life" characters (many of which I've personally met) that have been part of the U.S. financial markets and business environment over the last 30 years. All of the characters in the book had to be "apocryphal" but readers will recognize most of them. Many of the characters also ultimately had a pretty direct connection with the eventual financial crisis in 2008. The first completed volume is available through Amazon on Kindle:
Background includes long/short public equity focused on medical devices; prior to that was cross-capital structure, distressed and performing middle market investing across industries.

I am currently an investor with previous experience in corporate M&A and private equity. I look for both long and short opportunities in small to mid capitalization stocks that are often ignored or overbought in the marketplace. In long opportunities, I seek out deep value that is overlooked by the general public. In short opportunities, I look for highly promoted companies that are likely to be misrepresenting information to investors. I conduct the necessary due diligence to present the facts and try to eliminate the asymmetrical information gap that exists in these opportunities.
I've spent considerable time working for a registered independent advisor, doing work such as structuring client accounts, researching stocks/bonds, and performing due diligence on external managers. My career shifted when I took a role at a major investment bank, where I've supported the front office in mortgage-backed securities and derivatives. I now work in an oversight and risk capacity, identifying areas of risk and control weakness when it comes to regulatory compliance. As for trading style, I lean towards small/mid-cap companies, as I believe they have the potential for greater risk-adjusted returns. I'm firmly contrarian, and look to buy out-of-favor equities that have an opportunity to revalue upwards in the medium term.
