With Inflation Easing, Is It Time To Load Up On India? [View article]
Indian markets provide good upside in short to medium term. The whole investing community is so bearish about interest rates in India that Indian markets have been moving sideways for quite a while. If markets show some strength this week a nice upward movement of about six to eight percent can't be ruled out in next one to two months.
High Tech India: A Minefield of Challenges [View article]
I think India's biggest challenge is developing world class infrastructure. Everybody talks of Bangalore but no one has seen the state of infrastructure in the city. It is already beginning to crumble. I don't believe the city can sustain such growth. Indian people are entrepreneurial but feel challenged by the growing corruption and lack of adequate infrastructure. India's biggest asset is its young population which forms a large chunk of its population. The biggest driver of growth in India has been the IT and ITES industry which has generated a few million jobs. As long this industry remains robust, young Indians will continue to earn and spend, hence driving the growth. In terms of stock market the biggest opportunity in India lies in the areas of capital goods, telecom and retail. As far as IT is concerned I feel it is past its prime in terms of growth
I definitely don't agree that the economy can take another rate hike in it stride. Already, one can observe slowdown in the Auto sector because of the higher interest rates. Also the real estate sector is showing first signs of crack with realty rates dropping by 20-25% in places like Bangalore and Delhi. Add the rupee rise of almost 10% has resulted in most IT companies feeling nervous. It is a wait and watch situation. sagecapital.wordpress..../
