  • Forget the Correction, Here's What Everyone's Missing About Apple [View article]
Geordy - Apple doesn't do "cheap", so I wouldn't bet on a cheap model. Instead, older and previous year models, like the iPhone 3GS and soon the iPhone 4, will serve that purpose. Great article.

  • Apple (AAPL) has slashed its iPhone orders by 20%-25% from March quarter levels, claims Sterne Agee's Shaw Wu after conducting supplier checks. Such a cutback implies FQ3 iPhone sales of just 26M-28M, below Street estimates of 30M-31M. Wu's takeaway: Apple is being conservative in order to handle a demand pause ahead of the next iPhone launch, and to cope with high channel inventory. On the other hand, Wu believes Apple has increased iPad order plans. (also)  [View news story]
Is Mr. Wu ever correct with his "predictions"? I don't remember if he ever was. Ignore this...

  • The Impact if Apple Opts for a Share Buyback [View article]
AAPL's only "problem" is that their products are so great that sometimes they need the sum of the world's components and manu facilities to make enough of them. That's what the cash is for. Apple will never use it to influence the stock price. They will use it to make the world's best products; for purchasing leverage, R&D/acquisition and marketing. When Steve Jobs retires, it will be great products that bring the stock price back from a fall, not financial manipulation.

Good guess - very long AAPL and buying...

  • Apple (AAPL) is reportedly in talks to acquire Loewe, a German maker of high-end TVs and speakers sporting minimalist designs, with a final decision due this week. A source claims Apple is offering $112M, a 47% premium to Loewe's Friday close on the Frankfurt exchange. The report comes shortly after Foxconn's chairman said his company is preparing to make an Apple TV set. Sharp, which just received an investment from Foxconn, owns 28.8% of Loewe. Update: Loewe is denying the rumor, but some investors aren't convinced, as its shares are still up 24.6%.  [View news story]
This would be denied whether true OR false.

I'd guess that if true, they'd buy it for distribution points worldwide or IP patents, not design.

  • The much-rumored 7" iPad (AAPL) will be manufactured by Foxconn (HNHAF.PK) and launch in August, claim Digitimes' sources. The occasionally-accurate site also reports the next iPhone will launch in September, and a new 10" iPad will arrive in Q4 - the latter assertion is eyebrow-raising, given Apple's history of Q1 iPad launches.  [View news story]
I doubt that Apple will introduce things one month apart; Aug & Sept.

I wonder if a new 7 to 8 inch size could be positioned as an addition to the iPod Touch line.

    Go AAPL!

  • The Case For An Apple Dividend [View article]
Apple did pay dividends in the late 80's until 1995. For now though, I hope they build their (our) cash and keep their options open.
