Texas Instruments and STMicroelectronics: The Analog Wireless Trade-Off [view article]
This article doesn't seem to be edited. Maybe I got the draft version. There is a great deal of repetition and there are two "Analog" subheadings. If there is a better version, please re-post; I'd like to read it! Jun 04 09:15 AMAT&T Builds Out CDN, Prepares to Push Into the Market [view article]
Mr. Rayburn, I'm still trying to get a handle on the technology overlays governing the telco business model. I follow (and own) SOAP and their (relative) successes in fielding a multi-vendor ethernet provider controller network.Given SOAPs intimate exposure to T and the fact that SOAP actually built most of T's servers, can the implementation of the Soapstone control plane give T a competitive advantage? Is the technology compatible and/or accretive?
Thanks for a great article. May 13 10:22 AM
Wall Street Breakfast: Must-Know News [view article]
Jersey (et al), I certainly can't contradict you...but maybe I can encourage you. I once knew a man who owned a very successful Ford dealership. He enjoyed the fruit of his gains for many years but when sales flagged he sold his stake to more energetic partners. His cut of the deal was over 250 "new" Fords that he kept in open storage from 1977 until he died a few years ago. Some of the cars became quite valuable but he stubbornly refused to sell any because he would then, "...have to pay taxes on the money I make." We couldn't convince him that, should he make profit of $100,000 and pay taxes of $50,000, he would still be $50,000 in the black. It seems to me, even in nearly impossible economic times, taxes are just fruit we don't get to keep. There's still fruit on the table.Best regards and good luck with your portfolio. May 12 09:35 AM
When Will Solar Achieve Grid Parity? We're Already There! [view article]
The article and comments are thought provoking and (mostly) well-researched. But I haven't seen any (credible) information on the "refresh" cost for renewable energy (either solar or wind). I've investigated retail warranties on points-of-failure for solar and wind installs; five years seems to be the longest time frame for power-switching (from conventional grid to installed array) and -storage equipment. What is the length of time any given array remains viable? When do solar panels "wear out?" Wind generators are easier to factor because they have so many moving parts...but the durability of solar equipment remains a mystery (at least to me!).howardmorris@yahoo.com Apr 21 03:57 PM
Will Too Many Frequency Band Options Delay LTE? [view article]
Thanks! This is the best spectrum recap I've read anywhere...but I wouldn't mind if you 'dumbed it down' a little. You're obviously an expert used to dealing with other experts and your treatment of the technical subject matter is very 'broad brush.' If you aimed a little lower you'd get more readers like me! Wow! It sure is easy to be a hater (seriously, an 18th century reference (dispiteous) for a 21st blog?). Cramer has personality and, like nearly every personality out there, you either love him or you hate him...and that's exactly what makes good TV. As for investing, he is the most up front, transparent compass the average investor has. He calls us "the home gamers" and without him we are stuck listening to the big name 'Streeters' and the local scam artists. He provides information and YELLS at us to do our homework. That's better than any teacher I ever had. Mar 14 10:02 AM
