  • "We are finding that homebuyers are no longer expecting home prices to decline further, which is creating some sense of urgency to buy now," says KB Home (KBH) CEO Jeff Mezger. A key reason for the Q1 miss is a "spike" in cancellation rates from customers unable to get mortgages, even those already with full loan approval letters. (h/t Joe Weisenthal)  [View news story]
Nope, but they are heavily remodeled. Even have indoor plumbing and electricity.

    WD,
Maintenance costs go way up when using methanol.
It is very toxic and corrosive. A mechanic working on a methanol vehicle has to wear gloves and a mask and the oil and other waste products have to be disposed of differently.

I remember a short blurb last week or the week before where the Israel central bank was going invest in US stocks, anybody else remember that? If that is happening do you think that is the only CB doing this. Just a thought at back door QE.

    HTL,
I don't know for sure that there is a shortage of drivers, I do know that I am constantly getting emails to go to work as a driver. Intermodal is much cheaper than long haul truck delivery, however shipping by rail can take up to a week longer cross country.

    LT,
Might want to check with Tim for an on the ground report on trucking. It's not hard for trucking to be strong after being decimated by a recession and high fuel prices (if they are talking about keeping the drivers that are left in loads). Or are they talking about volume of freight?

    Bird-Man,
Criminals don't care about laws, they would be armed and know they had easy pickings. The government would also not have to think about the response of the people when overstepping the bounds of the Constitution.

    AAM,
Thanks for the invite. I live 45 miles from where I was born here in the SoCal desert. At my age the warmth is welcome and it will be a long time before housing comes back enough to sell my home (I am in Riverside county). We have been very hard hit in housing in the Inland Empire. I bought in 1997 and the house values for less than I paid in 1997. It could be much worse, I could be somewhere that my bones would never get warm. ;-)

    Bird-Man,
I am not surprised at your reaction. I doubt that you have been in the position to witness humanity at its worst and how fast it can happen. Or maybe my perception is skewed by being raised around combat veterans of WW2 and Korea. What I do know is that if everyone is armed you will see much more polite conversations and disagreements and people will agree to disagree. People being armed reduces the amount of violence as violence has immediate consequences.

    SDavid,
We may not agree on much, but I agree that the real bipartisonship in government is that both parties are corrupt.
