  • Groupon posts mixed results, offers light Q2 guidance (updated) [View news story]
    @equitable,
    you do realize lots and lots of business is done via Fax machines?

    Also, are you aware of GRPN's automated system of allowing vendors to create their own deals? i.e. a self serve deal maker?

    @equitable,
    "Everybody in the e-commerce industry despises working with Groupon."

    Everybody in the tech industry despises working with Google, MSFT, ORCL and Apple, because they are all a bunch of money grabbing leaches. Yet, everyone STILL does business with them.

    " Their entire backend platform hasn't changed in 10 years"

    How would you know? You said you haven't used them in 2 years.

  • Groupon -7.8% post-earnings; Street worried about lower take rates [View news story]
    Everyone of those analysts are playing Huckster Joe.

    "What, you mean in order to generate more business and more customers, we need to spend money? Never heard of the idea. Obviously this conundrum is specific to GRPN only."

    Here are the facts, as reported in yesterdays earning release (make up your own minds):

    "On this basis gross billings increased 10% year-over-year to $1.6 billion for the quarter and revenues increased 10% to $750 million. Gross profit was $347 million, adjusted EBITDA came in at $72 million and we delivered $0.03 of non-GAAP EPS. Changes in FX rates, the euro in particularly negatively impacted the quarter. Had they remained neutral to last year we would have delivered $180 million more of billings, 51 million more of revenue, bringing revenue to $802 million, 28 million more of gross profit and 3 million more of adjusted EBITDA. We still delivered a very strong quarter as adjusted EBITDA grew about 58% year-over-year or 65% on an FX-neutral basis with us still investing heavily in marketing in order discounts."

    @Equitable,
    when you say fallen apart, do you mean increase their employee base to 12,000? Or do you mean their exodus from emails to mobile deals? Or increasing their active user base to over a 100M people? Or increasing North American billings by 14%? Or provide for over 900,000 mini websites (Groupon Merchant Pages) for vendor reviews and promotions? Or that those Merchant pages have already generated over 71 million reviews? NOTE: Yelp should be afraid, very afraid. Or growing active deals to about 365,000, a 10% growth QoQ? Or that North America local growth accelerated from under 2% a year ago to 12% this past quarter? Or that GRPN's mobile app has been downloaded over 105 million times? Or its investment value of TMON is $782 million on a fully diluted basis (from its initial investment of $260M)?

  • Groupon Stock: Time To Look Elsewhere For Better Deals [View article]
    @author,
    nice article. However, there are a 3 HUGE omissions that practically causes a reader to completely dismiss your article/analysis for a bunch of hot air.

    1.) Complete failure to omit GRPN's divestiture of Ticket Monster. It's a windfall for GRPN (to the tune of 3X their initial investment). Yet, NO ONE WANTS TO TALK ABOUT HOW IT POSITIVELY IMPACTS GRPN. Why? Ask yourself that.

    2.) Complete failure to discuss the automated sell program, GRPN's ceo Eric Lefkofsky has in place. He's liquidating around $40M every year. Making him one of the richest CEO's on Wallstreet.

    3.) GRPN's newly announced $300M stock buyback program and why GRPN's executor isn't acquiring shares below $7.

    Did you notice how Zack's on a daily basis was pounding the table on GRPN the last 2 weeks? Who do you think paid Zacks to publish those snow jobs. Hint, read my InstaBlog for an answer.

    @midas,
    apparently the executor of GRPN's buy back program has notified the FTD boys, that they will not buyback any shares below $7. In other words, they won't interfere with their gig.

    @SA,
    Aaaah, but when GRPN took a 'ONE TIME HIT' for its acquisition of T-Mon, the stock got crushed and the analysts wrote headlines such as 'profits elude GRPN once again' or 'investors were surprised by the 2 cent earnings miss' (caused by the T-Mon purchase).

    So now, investors get screwed because T-Mon is going to return them 3X their initial investment?

    It's all a screw job.

    @SA,
    so when the $200 MILLION from the T-Mon deal shows up on GRPN's earnings statement, I GUARANTEE YOU EVERYONE WILL HAVE THAT AS PART OF THE CONSENSUS.

    Why do you think the game is always crooked concerning GRPN?

  • Groupon up as it nears $800M deal to sell Ticket Monster [View news story]
    @500,
    "How is selling a losing operation like Ticket MOnster for nearly triple what you purchased it a year ago a bad deal for Groupon?"

    It's not a bad deal. In fact, its the deal of the decade.
    However, ever since GRPN announced their intent to sell or divest a portion of T-Mon, the stock has CRATERED by 30%.

    and guess what?
    I GUARANTEE YOU, GRPN will NOT purchase a single share below $7 (via their stock purchase program).

    @500,
    "I hope analysts think the way you are saying, but I don't think they are that mis-informed. "

    They are very informed. It's a fact that they will spew out partial story lines. For instance, all the media outlets stated GRPN missed on revenue guidance. WRONG. Add back in Ticket Monster and they met guidance.

    Its their punch and judy show. Their rope a dope. Call it what you will. It's their way to DECEIVE investors. To create MASSIVE CHURN on the stock.

    As far as predictions. I only made 2 of them.
    1.) Revenue guidance will be misconstrued. Which it was.
    2.) The stock will get pulverized. Which it was.

    So, can you please tell me what part of my prediction was wrong?
