    @Randall,
    one of the primary reasons for the shortage of i6's is DRAM. Notice that the i6 only has 1GB? and not the 2-3GB that is now standard for smartphones?

    so basically they are only now trying to emulate MSFT's/Nokia's strategy? Except they are going to ignore the Sub $350 market?

    @tftf,
    otherwise you think the 5C might be able to compete with Nokia Lumia 521 ($100 off contract smartphone)

    Nokia also has many patents on the extrusion/manufacturing of the multi-color polycarbonate process.

    @mimi,
    I was in the same dilemma. I decided on the matte yellow (there is no gloss) with a black camera grip. I went with yellow as it really lets EVERYONE within eyeshot know, you own THE 41 MP camera phone! With the black camera grip, it blends nicely with the black lens bump. However, the black unit was very sleek and business like.

    @andy,
    You sure have a lousy backhand. You have to improve your ping pong game.

    So, do you think the Lumia line will exceed quarter over quarter growth of 10% 20% or 30% ?

    What do you say big shot? What's your guess?

    Also did you know NSN did $1.87 billion in free cash flow for 2012? OMG! If they do anything close to that again... KABOOOM!

    @author,
    when Apple releases its 5C, it will officially become just another device maker, competing on razor thin margins. We all know that being vertically integrated is a major advantage when it comes to competing on razor thin margins. Samsung and Nokia knows the game very well.

    @author,
    everyone also knows that Nokia will be releasing phablets and tablets later this year (with the release of the new WPX OS - more cores, 1080p, etc). Hence, how come the press has not written about how it WILL eat into Apple's iPad/Mini market share?

    @author,
    "In addition, there has been little press coverage of the likely impact of the 5C on Apple's competitors "

    The reason there is little press coverage, is do to ONE HUGE thing.

    Apple is currently non-existent in the mid to low end smartphone market. Otherwise, everyone is destroying Apple in those markets. If the press actually did their job, they would report how the $100 off contract Lumia 521 can do anything an iPhone can do. However, the media wont do that, as they don't want to start a panic on Apples shares.

    @Tom,
    Nokia has around 88,000 employees, a 23% reduction in just the last year.

    I believe Nokia's NSN division employs around 50,000 employees. It used to be 75,000 just 2 years ago, but has since been restructured. They make & deploy 4G-LTE baseband stations, etc. NSN does around $15 billion in revenues annually. They are now the 2nd largest 4G-LTE specialist, only behind ERIC.

    Nokia's HERE/Mapping division, the worlds largest mapping company employs about 6,000 employees.

    Nokia's handset division employs around 31,000 employees.

    So now we compare Apples 32,000 non- retail employees to Nokia's handset employees of 31,000.

    Given that Nokia actually builds and operates most of its manufacturing facilities, its fair to say 2/3rds of the 31,000 Nokia employees are manufacturing jobs.

    So Nokia has about 10,000 engineers world wide developing over 20 distinct handsets (feature phones to smartphones, from $20 to $700 range).

    Just curious, how does this compare to Apple's iPhone/iPad/iTouch division?

    thanks

    Me - "Nokia understands that build quality is their number one priority, as they do sell over 200 MILLION devices annually."

    Tom - "Nokia doesn't sell 200 million Lumias annually."

    Me - "I didn't say they sold 200 million Lumias annually. I said they sell over 200 million PHONES annually."

    Tom - "I didn't say that you said that Nokia sold 200 million Lumias."

    I'll blame the confusion on thread smearing

    @G.H.
    I agree 100% with your comments about comfort/confidence concerning UI design. Apple is the best at it. I also have a strong background in the UI arena.

    I guess one could say Apple's Dynamic UI, is more along the lines of UI innovation, not technological innovation. Although I can see a non-tech person perceiving it as innovation, just as they could also see an extra row of icons as being innovation :)

    thanks
